Tube Driven Headphone Preamp

Hey guys, im in a bit of a pickle.
I'm moving into a Unit with Very thin walls. No more 30w Laney amp at full volume for me Either way, i need to sell the amp for various reasons.
So!
What i need. Is either a pedeal/preamp of some kind with a a pre and power tube in it ( so 2 tubes?? ).
So it will go, Guitars, Preamp/pedeal, headphones? Ive seen some pedals with a Tube in it> Will that do the trick?

Can you just not use the amp during the day then at night use a volume pedal to keep it like a quiet practice amp?

I use my crate v3112T in my crappy apartment and i've never had a complaint. Then again the white trash family that has the two apartments downstairs i've not seen in a month...

There are small tube amps in 1 watt or below range, but they're mostly boutique stuff. Tubes are just not practical as headphone amps - you still need 2 transformers (and high voltage) to make a tube amp, no matter how small it is.

I suggest saving you Laney (if possible) for playing out or jamming and grab a Yamaha Magicstomp for $80 quick while MF is still closing them out. That's what I did, and for the money, its great for practicing through 'phones.

hmmmm that sounds smarter i suppose...not really 'tube' but 'tube sounding' would be more practical?

V, anything tube is gonna make you say, "Wow, that's louder than I thought".

You just need a small transistor amp, or one with a tube in the pre.

If you need to be super quiet there is always a Rockman or a Pocket-Rocket.

Does the Vox modelling thingie have a headphone output? If it does, then there's your solution!

The Boogie V-Twin has a headphones out. It's alright. I'd look into a Rack Tube Preamp, and then feed it into a multifx that has a headphone out. Some great budget tube pres include the Crate TDP, Peavey Rockmaster, Hughes & Kettner Tubeman (that would be my recommendation) I'm sure there are more that I'm missing. Then you can find some rack multifx with a clean signal and a headphone out, but the Hughes & Kettner has a headphone out. Actually so does my Crate TDP. So does my H&K Attax preamp! I swear that old Crate TDP will shock you. The clean channel does SRV breakup, and the lead channel rips. There's plenty of cheap used gear that would fill your order. Hughes & Kettner are among my favorite for tube pres. I think they're the most versatile.

I would go small SS amp. Tech 21, Vox, etc. Most have a headphone out and a speaker sim line out so you could record quietly as well.

I have a Marshall Lead 12 for sale if you interested.

I used to have a Koch Pedaltone all-tube floorbased preamp that had a headphone output. Worked great, and it's a great and very versatile preamp. There's also specific tube headphone amps, just not for guitars. They're aimed at hi fi purists, and off course rediculously expensive:
