ok my Fender Super 60 has 3 Preamp tubes 2x12AX7's, and 1x12AT7....I'm almost Positive the 12AT7 is for the Reverb.....now I gots a question...I found out that it's Bad....darn thing..and I have a few good 12AX7's kicking around....Can I replace the 12AT7 with an 12AX7 without doing any damage to the amp?...

Re: Tube Question...

12AT7 is probably the PI (as LPB said), the 2 12AX7's are the preamp and tone driver, and the reverb is probably a version of the IC driven circuit used in the SS amps that were around at that time...so, yes you can use a 12AX7 in the PI slot, but it will not have any effect on the reverb.

Re: Tube Question...

My bad! :eyecrazy:

Fender Blackface amps use a 12AT7 to drive the reverb & I didn't check the schematic for the Super 60 when SonofaMitch originally posted his question. Super 60 schematic. Completely solid state driven reverb.

Your 12AT7 is the phase inverter, and putting a 12AX7 in there won't hurt a thing. It will produce more gain in the phase inverter (mu of 100 vs. 60) and may lower your clean headroom.

Sorry for the bad info earlier.

Re: Tube Question...

ok, thanks a lot guys, it does crunch up my tone a but more.....but i still have the same problem....well the amps going to a tech Monday...because somewhere in the Preamp section it's a little noisy(sounds like a 60z hum)...and it's NOT the tubes...i've tested every one...and the power tubes are fine because I have a jack on the back that says "Power Amp In" so it bypasses the whole Preamp section and plugs directly into the Power tubes...and theres no problem there.......darn thing it's prolly a Stupid Resistor or 2 haha
