Tube Screamer -> Peavey 5150 lead = ???

Hi!

I'm considering to buy a ibanez tube screamer reissue (ts808) to gave me a precise chunky kind of tone on my 5150 lead channel (not to use as a boost cause my pickups give me enough output for now). It seem to be the setup of Michael Amott (before the Doomsday Machine album). What type of sound do you think it's going to give me?

My guitar is a B.C. Supreme Mockingbird Maple Neck thru with Koa wing. I put 2 seymour duncan livewire metal in it (so, I don't need a boost).

Old Carcass, Arch Enemy and Dimmu Borgir... these band are very near the type of sound I'm looking for.

I considered this for my valve king head and 6505 cab. think that would be good?

this is so strange as i found my 5150 had all the gain and tone controlls needed... what type of EQ filter does a tube screamer make on a 5150?

Definitely not about gain.

It's about slamming the preamp a bit more so you can lower the gain on the amp a bit. That combined with the low cut, mid boost, and smoothened top-end make the tone tighter, clearer, punchier, and more defined.

I honestly feel that 99% of amps benefit from running a TS infront.

exact!

I try all the tube screamer stuff at the guitar shop and I left with the Maxon OD-808! I found it better. Best 100 $ I spend this year!

Man, you might as well have my rig.

Duncan active pickups -> OD808 -> 5150 (mines a II) -> Mesa oversized 4x12.
