Also Does Anyone Know
Is The OD settings on the ROD881 the same as the setting on the ROD880

Re: Tube style overdrive in a pedal

i have an ad-30 head and I couldn't be happier with my tonebone classic, it has many options to shape your tone. the amp is single channel and has t-m-b and master and gain. I set the amp with the master at around 7 or 8 and the gain to taste for however loud I need (usually 1 1/2-2 cause this amp is sooo loud) which gives a great bouncy, chimey, full clean sound. and set the classic for my OD and it sounds so good! chewy, barking, singing tone!
I highly recommend that setup!!!

How about the Budda Phatman or Zendrive? I love my Budda amp!

I was going to recommend the Zendrive or Mosferatu actually (both made by Hermida BTW). Alfonso is currently in a prototyping phase with the Zendrive 2, a tube-based Zen.

Re: Tube style overdrive in a pedal

I would have to say a tube screamer or an overdrive the OD-1 or a DS-1 which are the ones that i have use--- the screamer is more fatter but the DS-1 can make that too and still use it like a distortion pedal without any dist coming from the amp.

Lovepedal Eternity..... has a really intense tweed vibe. I love mine.

I've also heard good things about V-stack and Menatone.

Re: Tube style overdrive in a pedal

im getting the fulltone ocd later this summer, idk if you can get that over there though. i have nothing to add about those pedals. i have heard good things about the phatman and zenman though, but they are pricey.

Re: Tube style overdrive in a pedal

Another one that is designed specifically for tube-like overdrive is the BJF Electronics Honey Bee. Emulates an overdriven Supro. Clips sound great. Do a google search and you'll find it.... something like custom-audio.com...

Do an ebay search for the

Chandler Tube Driver

Another vote for the Chandler. As long as you don't dime it, it will sound great. I vaguely remember Dean Markley making a tube distortion unit in the late '80's/early '90's called (IIRC) The Overlord. That was a very good unit and highly underrated.

Re: Tube style overdrive in a pedal

Well I made the Plexitone so that it could work on clean amps, used a Hiwatt DR201, that is a loud and very clean amp(to a certain point though)
Also send it through the paces on a an AC-15 clone top, wich is at the other end of the ampscale, tested it on some Fenders, the worstsounding ones where Blues Devilles and Blues Deluxe amps, for some odd reason the bass could not be dialed out of those suckers, well the sound was not as good on those but still working, the cleanboost channel has plenty to give from as it is a very loud pedal.
But I don't know if the pedal has the sound you are looking for, it has plenty of bite and that thudding lowend like a certain British amp, but it works well on clean amps, play around with speakers also helps with getting the sound you are looking for, it is a very important factor really.
