Tube suggestion for hr50+xl needed

Hi! I wasn't here for a long time but always a good place to come back!
I want to retube my amp. The important thing are the powertubes, coz i think
they're already getting week and got some air (glowing blue while playing).
What powertubes would you suggest me? I use this amp for harder stuff
and play hardcore/metalcore/death metal stuff in my band.
So I want a tight and a bit more agressive and modern sound!
What pre tubes?

Your choices for power tubes in a Soldano are pretty limited because of the very high plate voltages (500V IIRC).

I'd suggest 9th generation Chinese 12AX7s. They're hard to beat for modern high gain applications. They're impossible to beat for the price.

After the soldano faq every stock 5881 and 6l6 should work even without rebias!
But I think rebias is better?!?
9th generation? Are these this "SHUGUANG" ?

btw current powertubes are sovtek (?) 5881, they are labeled with Soldano logo.

The warm round sounds a bit like smthng i don't want! I think it could be a bit "edgy".
No matter this was already on the list of pre's to check out?


But which powertubes??? Sovtek again? Or better JJ, EH,...?

I just got rid of my Soldano HR+XL, but Voodoo Amps put Ruby 6L6GC's in them and they sounded better than the stock Sovteks it came with.

I looked on the tubes again and they're all original so i think I really have to change them:
Pre: Soldano 12AX7/ECC83 - 12AX7A
Power: Soldano 5881 - Sovtek 5881/6L6 WGC

So my question should I stay with Sovteks or change to JJ or SED or something?

You probably don't need to replace the preamp tubes. They last much, much longer than power tubes.

i know ... but the tubes are now very old

I'm not sure where to rebias the amp.
Here is just a small store... and it don't know an amp tech.

My hot rod has sovtek 5881s, and I haven't had a lot of time with it to start messing around. It also sounds great, so I'm not inclined to futz about just yet. I may try lower gain pres at some point, though.

I talked to the previous owner and he said he got best results out of sovteks compared to the JJs and GTs he tried. Sometimes amps are like that. For example, my amp tech swears that modern mesas don't sound right unless they're running chinese tubes.

They're now TAD instead of RUBY, aren't they?
