Interesting. I have no problems getting the beef outta my amp.

yeah could very well be user error too... I personally have not tried the tubemeister but had the statesman head and thought it was pretty good and highly tweakble, no doubt H&K make amazing gear

Re: Tubemeister 18 users....

Cabs. You want big beef from little bottles you gotta back it up with a cab with thump. At home, I am not too concerned but were I gigging I would be looking at something like the rectumfrier 2x12 , or any number of oversize/ported cabs.

Fender tonemaster oversized 2x12 with cannabis rexes.... Now that's a big sound lol, if you were looking for a big sounding cab I would do as JeffB said and get an oversized cab

Re: Tubemeister 18 users....

as I said, I have no problems getting the beef outta my current cab :)

Re: Tubemeister 18 users....

The time I sat down and tried one, it had a fizzy presence that really turned me off. The amp looks insanely cool, but I really dislike anything with a such an overbearing high end. I like thick and smooth highs along with a lot of mids with little bass. The tubemeister I also found to have a little too much saturation with that fizz. Maybe it was the cabinet, maybe it was the 498T/490R set in the SG I tried it out with, maybe it was shrill because it wasn't cranked, etc. I should probably give it another chance.

Re: Tubemeister 18 users....

Sorry but I don't have any idea of switching to EBs. However very informative thread!

Re: Tubemeister 18 users....

I love the TM-18. I do not often get into high gain territory with it, though. I am still running the stock tubes in mine.

When I first got it, I was playing it into a Fender 4x12 cab that usually sounds awesome with my Fender heads. It sounded much better when I switched to an Egnater 1x12 cab. It just sounded tighter and more focused to me.

But I must admit that this amp really works best for me when I pair it in stereo with an Egnater Rebel 20. The Rebel gives up a good baseline throaty rock sound that I can augment with the TubeMeister. I set-and-forget the Rebel for a "mild rock crunch" and then tweak the TM from clean to buzz saw as needed/desired.

So I guess I'm cheating because I don't push the TM into high gain, and I use a second amp to backfill my tone. The last time I went mono, I used the Rebel, not the TM, so that's probably saying something too.

Two heads are better than one?
