Tubescreamer on all the time

TS9 especially, a lot of people use it but from what I read mostly as Lead boost.
I on the other hand have it on all the time and just use my volume control to cut through(will get SD booster in near future). So how many of you here actually have it on all the time ???

Re: Tubescreamer on all the time

I tend to leave it on constantly.

The way i set my amp up is to be just near breaking up and then use the different pedals to color the tone and give it that push. I have a ZenDrive, a Keeley Modded TS-9, a Spina Modded TS9DX, a Wasabi Overdrive, a Spina Modded DS-1 and two Spina SD-1's that all have very different sounds to my ears. I'll get the sound set and then it's a different pedal for each different sound. Some pedals cotton to different amps, so that has to be taken into account at times. But the pedals stay on and I use the volume control to get the lead boost.

I also like using one or more pedals at a time as well when it really needs to scream. But generally I won't set them up to be much of a volume boost.

Re: Tubescreamer on all the time

i do. I set my bassman on full preamp volume, the TS on full volume, and then set the gain according to what i'm playing & which guitar I'm using

Re: Tubescreamer on all the time

my TS7 is on all the time, 'cause it sounds so good.

Re: Tubescreamer on all the time

Depends on the amp for me. Certain amps with the TS make the rhythm too thin and grainy to me.

Re: Tubescreamer on all the time

The ENGL is plainly where all my rhythm sound comes from, but I am getting one some day to cut through better with leads.

Re: Tubescreamer on all the time

When I played Fenders I had it on all the time
Then I graduated to the FD2 on all the time

Then with my vintage Marshalls I had the OCD on all the time

All these are very touch sensitive

As most of you would assume I don't have that problem having an invader in my strat plugged in a Laney AOR. Do you guys who have TS on all the time use SD booster for the leads or something like that ?? ?

Re: Tubescreamer on all the time

For certain tunes I would keep my TS-9 on going into my Twin, Then work my volume knob for lead boost.

Re: Tubescreamer on all the time

All the time. It just seems to smooth things out. Gain about 9:00, Level about 3:00. Tone about Noon.

Re: Tubescreamer on all the time

Wow! Don't any of you guys ever play clean??

Bill

What is clean? You are talking about the weird sounding channel that isnt grainy? My button on the footswitch is taped over for that one.... :fingersx:

no, i use either the volume knob on the guitar or switch pickups

Goes in phases. I'll go a few weeks never playing clean, and then a few weeks playing nothing but clean. I meant to say whenever I play dirty I always have it on.

I always warm up clean, and I always do technique exercises clean.

Re: Tubescreamer on all the time

Tubulator is on 100% of the time at a show. Just adds some massive balls to the gain.

Re: Tubescreamer on all the time

I never keep any of my pedals on constantly. My OCD, my FD2, none of them. I mostly play clean though, and I found that the best way to get an SRV type pushed sound (for me at least) is to just crank the AMP until it gets to the point where its JUST about to break up, very subtle. I do this instead of taking my amp at a clean sound and pushing it with an overdrive pedal because the first way just sounds much bigger and organic and of course, cleaner. I use my OCD and FD2 to basically boost the amp from mild break up into a medium crunch (lower volume, higher gain) or for lead boosts (higher volume, lower gain)
