Tubescreamer question

Im not sure if it's the mid spike, the bass cut off, the fact that you can still hear the clean guitar under the note or the lack of punch some of them have...maybe a combo of a lot of these things. I have an SD-1 that I find simply OK...not even great, in fact i rarely use it. I also have a reissue TS-9 that I never even plug in...it currently has a broken switch and I could care less...thats how often I use it!

my $.02 -- the clean note under the overdriven tone is exactly what i like about my ts9, i guess because i'm strictly a blues player -- i will say, however, that i was really disappointed in the stock reissue until it got spina-modded...

I like to blend clean and OD tones but to be honest the way a TS sounds has just never done it for me...Im getting ready to give TS style pedals one more go and maybe I'll find one I like!

Re: Tubescreamer question

For me the TS-9 and my Princeton Reverb are a marriage made in heaven.:)
The mid spike and lack of low end that most complain about are perfect for that Lil' amp. Playing in a 7pc. Blues band with just a PR it's very EZ to get drown out. But aslong as I got the amp up on a table or chair, Useing the TS-9 as a Boost I never had a problem cutting though. I do how ever have my TS-5 modded for more bass and gain.

Re: Tubescreamer question

High everyone, I've been using a TS-10 for a long time, and it's not great but not terrible either. It's starting to fall apart though. I'm looking for suggestions. I use an overdrive to get a little breakup on the clean channel and to boost solos on my lead channel (Mesa F-50). I'd love to hear your thoughts on different pedals. How is the sparkle drive different from the tube screamers? And how do tube screamers differ from boutique pedals like the Timmy or the OCD. What about the Boss Blues Driver? I'm really not sure what I want. I'm not crazy about the mid hump TS has or the diminished lows. Sorry if I'm rambling.

Re: Tubescreamer question

The Sparkle Drive is another TS clone but has an extra clean knob...The OCD is different from a TS and I'd say it's more like an overdriven Marshall tone by comparison and doesn't compress like a TS..

There's just way too many pedals out today and I'm at a loss to tell you what to get? I use an 808 and a modded TS5 on my board, but I also use a CM Plexitone and a modded DS1 and JackHammer...
