nah, it's ok, i can't afford it right now. I'd love to but i just can't. I do have electronics repair experience (it is my job), it's just that i want to get this right the cheapest way possible. and if it only takes a $3 switch to fix, i'm more than game

LOL....

Cool.....Good luck! :dance:

Re: Tubescreamer TS-5 on/off problem

By switching plane I mean a three pin-thingy where pin 1 is connected to either pin 2 or pin 3. A relay switches one (or more) switching planes depending on an external signal. (just to get the terminology straight;))

I use the first plane to switch the input signal in the circuit or to the 2nd plane. The 2nd plane switches either the 1st plane or the circuit signal to the output. since my switch has only one plane I use it to switch the relay and the status LED.

The on/off problem is IMHO due to a problem in the FlipFlop arrangement. The original switch just gives an impulse which forces the FlipFlop circuit to flip. The FlipFlop circuit has two outputs, one is "high"=1 and the other one is "low"=0 and by giving the original switch impulse they're simply exchanged:
0 ==> 1 and 1 ==> 0

The 1 and the 0 are used (through the JFETs) to decide which signal comes to the output - either a dry or the distorted signal. You could use the your switch to give the JFETs directly the 0 and 1 (it's actually 0V and -4.5V).

Those are the possibilities I see there...

You can buy replacment switches for 5, and 7 series Ibanez pedals from Steve Daniels at www.smallbearelec.com

Just got to the listing for switches, and they are on the second page. 0.95 cents each!

Re: Tubescreamer TS-5 on/off problem

i have a MT-10 Mostortion pedal from Ibanez and it too has a terrible time toggling on and off. It makes me very cross. Stomping does not help. Maybe i should replace the switch too...

That switch is alot harder to find. I'm working on finding one to repair a old Ibanez PUE5 for a band in Pennsylvania. I'll let you know if I find one.
