Just got back into enjoying 3 singles in my strat. Texas specials in Neck and Middle. Dimarzio FS-1 in the bridge. Thru a semi overdriven amp which pedal do you guys prefer, others are also open for discussion.

Thanks

I'm very happy with my Digitech Bad Monkey. Sweetens up the rather raw tone of my Traynor's unboosted crunch channel quite nicely. I wouldn't go so far as to say it's "organic" -- but it is what I'd call "natural sounding." This probably makes it better than 95% of overdrives in its category.

I'm quite happy with the measly $40 I dropped on this green little monster.

Yeah I had one of those they weren't bad. The bass control helped.

I think there is someting about strats and TS9s/TS808. There are a lot of great tones, on many albums that are of this core. I of course will always recomend a Spina mod TS9.

If you're willing to spring for an OCD, you probably wouldn't mind spending the cash for the pedal I want. Banzai Fireball. It's the perfect OD sound in my mind. Brisk has one and it blows my mind to hear it. Very capable pedal that has some incredible sounds in it (plus a series of terrible sounds if you dial it in wrong). Some people are fulltone lovers, but the Fireball has more gain available (but it's still an OD). The OD is smooth as glass and sounds more tubey than every tube OD I've come across. It kind of sounds like God's hand reached out and touched a tubescreamer and made it into something a tube screamer could never be by itself.

Get a Fulltone 10th Ann. Mosfet Fulldrive II before they're gone.
Not only will it sound great with your strats, it'll never go below what you paid for it new, because it's an instant collectible.

It's basically a 2 channel boutique Tube Screamer, but fuller sounding.

Maybe an Arion Tubulator? Unbelieveable for the price.

Different amps take to different pedals very...well, differently. I could recommend a Tube Screamer, a Crowther Hot Cake, a Boss BD-2 or a Klon Centaur. You've got to experiment.

The downside is that you will need to buy a few of them as they're made as cheaply as you would expect something for that price to be.

I spent alot of time knocking around on cheap pedals to find out the hard way that it's one of the few things that you really can get what you pay for. At best, and modded, the lower-end pedals don't come up to par against the Klons and the ZenDrive's and the Fulltones.

Yeah, that's true. Are there empty shells sold where the insides can be transplanted?

It's more than the shell...the guts are cheap. The jacks come apart from the boards with a stiff breeze.

To reinforce that sort of thing you'd need to go all Howard Dumble and just sink the entire chassis in an epoxy for support after it got re-housed.

Re: Tubscreamer, SD 1,OCD, Or Fat Boost, For drivng your strat?

My favs are the SD-1, ZW-44 and DS-1. I just got done tweaking the DS-1 again and it sounds great to my ears. The SD-1 was modded a few years back. The ZW-44 sounds great right out of the box.

I could've bought a more expensive OD if I wanted to but I like the Boss pedals and enjoy doing mods to them. The money I don't spend on more expensive pedals is going towards another amp down the road.

Yeah I find that my tubescreamer sounds great with the strat especially on the neck pickup. There is bottom end loss with the sd-1 and tubescreamer which can really suck when your in the bridge position pu. The OCD doesn't do this as bad nor does the fat boost. Maybe I'll take alook at the mosfet fulldrive.
