Re: Tuner pedal recomendations.

I just got my Korg dt-10 a little while ago, and I love it. I was in you position earlier as well, and thats the one I went for. It also comes with a daisy chain so you can power multiple effects with it.

Re: Tuner pedal recomendations.

If your looking for a stage tuner to just keep in tune when playing with a band situation, the Boss TU2 is pretty hard to beat. I personally use a Matrix 3000 on my pedal board. Its probably not as good as the TU2 but it works for me and I paid $40 for it. At home when I am doing setups/maintenance I use a TU12. These are much more accurate than most pedal tuners and they are easier to see when intonating a guitar.

Re: Tuner pedal recomendations.

Either the Boss TU-2 pedal tuner or the Planet Waves pedal tuner will get the job done and both are very durable. I've got the Planet Waves (was a Christmas gift) and it does the job for me.

Re: Tuner pedal recomendations.

The TU-2 is plenty accurate for stage use and rugged. Put it last in line if your fx are input signal sensitive......and it can be used to power other fx daisychain style.

Re: Tuner pedal recomendations.

the korg and guyatone (what i use and like) is 3x more accurate than the Boss, and the Peterson is 30x more accurate. it depends on your pedalboard real estate and accuracy requirements...the planet waves and korg tuners are big...the guyatone is tiny, but is easily read too.

They are? The Planet Waves pedal tuner is no bigger than the Boss TU-2. When I think "big" for a pedalboard I think of EH pedals, not the Nano series.

Re: Tuner pedal recomendations.

if you need accuracy then get the strobostomp, its a great tuner but not cheap. the boss tu2 is the best $100 i ever spent

Re: Tuner pedal recomendations.

Buy the Boss now and save yourself the hassle later on of going through the others and then getting it.

That's that.

My first pedal tuner was the Arion Stage Tuner. It was cool for it's time, and it functioned sort of like the TU-2, mute/tune. But you couldn't tune to anything but E, A, D, G, B, and E. I've had my TU-2 since 98 or so. Kickass.

Regarding tuner accuracy... I have a Korg DTR-2 rack tuner on my bass rig. I spend more time bouncing around between flat and sharp and not being "on." Nowadays, I just "ballpark" it- as long as the green light is on, no one is going to be able to tell the difference. Maybe if you're recording you might need the accuracy that something like the Peterson provides, but when I recorded at a "world class" studio that's recorded many records that everyone's heard, their standard tuner is a Sabine ST-1100.

The TU-2 is one of the best buys a guitarist can make.

Re: Tuner pedal recomendations.

Thanks for the suggestions guys!

The first one I considered was the boss. I thought, just get that and shut up, it's just a tuner. Then I read about the accuracy "problem" and the fact that it's not "true bypass" so some say that it sucks tone.

Now I am between the boss, the korg and guyatone.

I surely don't need the 30x more accurate peterson, but these two as mincer said are 3 times more accurate than the boss and at the same price...

I don't know... (The planet waves has many reliability issues and accuracy some say. Many bad reviews on that one...)

Re: Tuner pedal recomendations.

I can tell ya that the Boss is buffered bypass like all their other pedals and does not suck tone. Whoever is saying that doesn't know beans about it. You want at least one buffered pedal in your signal chain if you can help it. That will help keep your signal strong back to the amp.

Which Planet Waves is getting the bad reviews? There's two of them, the chromatic with strobe mode and another with a built in metronome.

Re: Tuner pedal recomendations.

The one with the strobe mode. I didn't even notice the other one!

I just checket the metronome one...
Where's the footswitch??

Re: Tuner pedal recomendations.

Hmmm, I thought the model with the metronome was a pedal too. Apparently not. Looks like the round button in the middle of the other 4 engages/disengages it.

I've had no issues with my Planet Waves. Been using it every weekend since I got it for Christmas.

Since you don't have one, just spring for the Boss.

Re: Tuner pedal recomendations.

Accuracy is a relative term.

The Boss isn't more accurate than the Peterson Strobe.

But then again I've never been on a stage where I've needed the accuracy of the Peterson.

What I HAVE needed on stage is a tuner that snags the signal fast and, is easy to read and updates quickly.

The Boss does that better than any other in the price range.

Alot of companies make good tuners...and most of the ones mentioned on here are fine options. But I see too many folks using the Boss to not think that they likely have managed to do something better than the rest.

Re: Tuner pedal recomendations.

I'm selling my Fender chromatic tuner pedal. It's rugged, tracks well, and is accurate enough for live use. If you're interested send me a PM.

Re: Tuner pedal recomendations.

I sold my TU-2 for the Peterson strobostomp.

An in-tune guitar is a beautiful thing. The boss is decent, and rugged. But the Peterson owns the hell out of it IMO. Strum a chord after you've tuned your axe with a Peterson, and you'll know where that extra money went.

Re: Tuner pedal recomendations.

I've used my Korg DT-10 for years, and it has served me well. It tracks well, and I don't see any need for me to upgrade to the Strobostomp.

Re: Tuner pedal recomendations.

Well if you are two guitar players in the band ,try to have the same tuner ,since they all have their own "right" notes! The Strobo is the best of the bunch.i tried it and man it's day and nght eith the Boss.I have The Boss TU-2,it's a great device ,but it sucks tone.Everytime i record ,i take it out of the chain. The difference is noticeable!
my 2 cents!

Re: Tuner pedal recomendations.

I haven't noticed the boss tonesuck or the inaccuracy. I perceive it to be buffered properly and accurate as can be. I guess that pedals of the same line will differ from pedal to pedal, but mine seems great. Wouldn't trade it for the world. Brisk has one too. Fantastic pedal and very very accurate IMHO.

One thing about the Peterson, I personally can't stand using Brisk's Peterson. I think he rarely uses it too. The display is just too busy and complicated. I like a simple pedal that accurately tells me up or down and that's what the Boss does.
