tuners for my SG

Davey

Goliath of Tone
so after putting up with the voes of my G-string tuner screwing up over and over and now the D string one is getting weird also....

sooooooooo.. tomorrow i'm going to get new ones. locking ones.. shcaller preferably, but - this is where you wonderful folks come in - i got NO freakin idea which ones i should get. i'm afraid that i'll order wrong ones that wont fit the headstock screw holes. they got two screws placed diagonaly.

i got a crappy picture here. i hope you can see it well enough that you can point me in the right direction so i can order them

Re: tuners for my SG

I don't think that there is any locking tuner that will be a direct retrofit for your existing tuners. You will probably need to drill out the peghead and install them. My favorite ones are Sperzels, BTW.

Re: tuners for my SG

OH yea.. you need the top also.. DAMNIT... totaly forgot about that. crap

Re: tuners for my SG

I second the sperzels...I have a locking set in my SG and never have problems with strings slipping out of tune.

Re: tuners for my SG

I've used Schaller and Grover locking tuners with excellent results. I can't quite tell from the picture if Schallers or Grovers will fit without modification, but I'm sure a decent tech could handle it.

Re: tuners for my SG

If those are Grover tuners, I think Grover makes a locking tuner that is a direct fit. Check out stewmac.com and call them

Re: tuners for my SG

I have grover locking tuners on my LP studio, they were easy to fit, since I had normal grovers on there anyway, so they were exacly the same shape and size etc.

Worth doing, although it was study before.

Re: tuners for my SG

hey bro,

are your tuners held in by a nut or a bushing?

bushing? means it's vintage size and won't take "modern" size tuners w/o modding. . allparts has a vintage klusion style locking 3+3 tuner available.

nut? then you've got 10mm "modern" size tuners and you'll be able to use any of the tuners mentioned above.

Re: tuners for my SG

they are some unnamed epi dye cast tuners... generic ones. prolly made in korea.

what can you judge from the picture? what info do you need? do you want a picture of the top of the headstock? i might have one let me check quick

nope.. let me get my webcam fired up...mkay... sorry for the ****ty quality, but thats the best i can do ATM.

Re: tuners for my SG

You, my friend, have the vintage style tuners. You can go with Orbiter's suggestion and get the Klusons, or like I said before, get a tech to drill out your headstock and install some of the modren style locking units. :burnout:

Re: tuners for my SG

ok.. kluson locking ones... should i just say vintage styled ones or do they have a certain model number? i wont let any tech near it unless there's something REALLY wrong with it (broken stuff) or someone i know at least a bit (like Zerb)

here's a closeup if anyone needs it =P

Re: tuners for my SG

here

should be at the top of the page.. kinda spendy ... but they work well.

they wont match the small mounting screw holes .... I'm not sure I've seen a locking system that 3+3 with that footprint... I'm sure you can find some nice sealed tuners that do match though ... if thats an issue ..
