Tung oil finishes

currently on my guitar I have a tung oil finish. it was cool for the first little while, but now i'm starting to have wear marks on my guitar where my right hand usually rests(see Pic). is there a way i can get a clear coat finish for my guitar so this doesn't happen without breaking my wallet? also, how would I get rid of the marks on my guitar already? I had to go with the tung oil in the first place since it was super cheap, but now i dunno if its so good or not.

if that doesn't work.

ANY advice would be appreciated

Re: Tung oil finishes

I may be wrong but I would think you need another application of oil and a buff.. (like maintaining floorboards or any other type of oiled wood - also need to do this with my guitar as it is tung oiled too)...

to put a clear coat over I would think it would probably require the oil to be removed by removing the wood it has soaked into as there may be bonding issues.

I have seen however a product for floorboards that is part oil & part lacquer (sortof a 2pac paint) that MAY go over the oil and stick...

hopefully someone else on here has had more experience with this kind of dilema and can suggest some alternate methods..

Re: Tung oil finishes

don't some finish tung oil with bee's wax?

at least on basses, I believe they do ... but, yeah, oil finishes do require an occasional new coat
