Tuning Floyd

I have a Charvel with a licensed floyd on it and it is a pain to tune. :smack:
Is there any secret to tuning them? Do the fine tuners start out all the way down or what. It p!sses me off when I try to tune it.

Re: Tuning Floyd

Put those fine tunin' bastards somewhere in the middle. This way u have room to go either way.

Re: Tuning Floyd

Fine tuners in middle. Tune with tuners over and over again, until all the strings are up to pitch. Lock nut, and fine tune 2-3 times.

Re: Tuning Floyd

What seafoamer said; keep the fine-tuners in the middle so you can tune either way.

The 1st thing you need to check is how much the tuning goes sharp when you lock the nut down; then detune the strings accordingly, so that they will be very close to pitch.

Make sure the strings are well stretched before using the fine tuners.

To keep the bridge at the zero point while installing new strings/tuning, a 9V battery behind the bridge works a treat.

Re: Tuning Floyd

Well, recently i got my first Floyd Rose trem guitar. Could someone explain to me the best way to stretch the strings? thanks. Do i just lock the nut and pull the strings sharp a few times?

Re: Tuning Floyd

With the nut locked, yank on the string a few times, hard. Unlock nut, retune string, and repeat.

NOTE:
When tuning a Floyd, to keep the bridge balanced, it's best if you tune:
6th String
3rd String

5th String
2nd String

4th String
1st String

Re: Tuning Floyd

Floyd Rose has some pretty detailed information on their site, too. But these guys pretty much nailed it.
