Tuning problems. Please, and i beg.. Help!

So, i thought my intonation was out, but i just can't get it right.

The problem is, any powerchord played on the top string sounds quite dead, the rest sounds amazing. I love this guitar from the A down, lol.

Bad news is, i think I've raped the saddle. The screw is a little stripped, so i'll prolly be replacing that.

Anyway, does anybody know why? I bought it used, and i guess i got screwed.

Im srsy at my last straw with this thing, though.

EDIT: Dead, as in, it sounds mega bass like, muddy, and not full of tone. Tone deaf, really. Please help. :D

Also, my tuner says it's in tune. but really it will fly all over the place. From in tune, to totally sharp/flat. BTW; i've had the intonation, and it tuned perfectly, and i still have this problem.

lube the nut slot and see if that helps.

and if that doesnt do it, replace the saddle.

Not saying that will fix it but all in all it sounds like a bit of a weird problem and i cant think of much else.

There are no details at all here which really allow anyone to offer much reliable help. We don't even know what kind of guitar it is, how old, what condition, hardware, pickups, etc. We can't see from here how the neck is in terms of relief, twist, warping or kickup, fret wear, loose frets, can't tell much about the nut slots, the condition of the saddles, how the pickups are set, or even what type or how old the strings are. It sounds like your complaints are more of tone and sustain than of intonation, and even of the tuning/intonation issues it's not clear whether your problems are that it won't play in tune, or won't stay in tune, which are entirely separate issues.

There are plenty of other issues which can contribute to the somewhat vaguely described problems you mention, and unless you really know what you're looking for in trouble shooting, it can be a very long and challenging discussion for those on the other end to try and fish out the most relevant details and descriptions.

I would recommend taking it in to a good tech - someone with good experience who you can demonstrate the problems to, who can view the guitar in person. It may cost a bit of money, but if you have a good tech you can turn to (i.e., not a Guitar Center setup guy), it is often the easiest way to properly evaluate what's going on in a guitar that likely has many issues going on in parallel.

OP: where do you live? Maybe a forumite would be willing to meet up with you and see what the issues are.

Even with virtually no helpful info on which to base his reply, DC has covered almost everything. The problem is probably something basic that a good guitar tech can remedy.

For instance, if the guitar is of the Fender-derived persuasion, the apparent tuning discrepancy could be Stratitis. (Incorrect PU height adjustment.) Other candidates could include excessively high action and excessively low action. It is pointless to speculate any further without basic information on what make/model/style of guitar this thread is about.
