Tunings! What do you guys prefer?

Re: Tunings! What do you guys prefer?

Standard tuned to A432
A440 was instituted by josef goebbles
i don't particularly care for NAZIs

I know a dude who rants this same stuff. Says things like A432 is natural and some pythagorean musical spiral stuff. That goebbels was out to stop the world from unlocking the secrets of A432 and the power that it holds... Hes a strange dude.

I keep a guitar in open E and a I keep a guitar in open G as well as a guitar that floats a lot...sometimes Eb somtimes open D or open F or even open F# and the rest of my stuff stays in standard E.

The bulk of the open tuned guitars are used mostly for slide and are almost a must for me.

I take 5 guitars to a gig...an open G guitar an open E guitar and humbucker guitar in standard, a single coil guitar in standard and a floater/spare.

I'm about to add a Baritone to the list that I'm thinking will be B to B so that'll be one thing to deal with...

As for switching it takes time and practice and I'll tell ya, the wild part is when you figure out songs in more than one tuning...some of the stuff in your list I can do in standard or in an open tuning but playing in an open tuning opposite a guitar player that's in standard E adds such an interesting texture to things that sometimes it's worth the extra work!

Eb and drop the E to D...C# tuning I believe its called. I call it Alice in Chains tuning cause alot of their stuff is in that tuning. Trivium and Halestorm also use it which is what ive been jamming lately.

Re: Tunings! What do you guys prefer?

standard or half step down.

I like Drop D but I feel like it's a bone head tuning since the tendency is to put the low D into everything.

The D note itself is not really the main appeal of drop D to me. It's like having a half open, half regular tuning. It allows you to do the 5th/power chord down low, without tying up your ring and pinky fingers like that chord normally does. if anything, it allows you to do more complex parts up high while playing chords.

Re: Tunings! What do you guys prefer?

E standard and Eb most of the time but I occasionally like to play in Drop D.

Re: Tunings! What do you guys prefer?

mostly standard and drop D.......mostly drop C for metal..... Eb.....drop C#......drop B..... depends on what i'm trying to do. i even tuned to drop A once when i played with my little brother's jesus-death-super-core-metal band.

Re: Tunings! What do you guys prefer?

Standard 90% of the time, Drop D 10% of the time.

Like almost every other guitar player in the world.

Exception:

I have a Jimmy Eat World guitar that I only use for playing Jimmy Eat World songs. Which I do a lot because I love Jimmy Eat World.

It has P90s and I keep it in drop C (CGCFAD) at all times, and it kicks ass and you wanna play it.

I agree that it gives a different texture and feel, definite benefit, but man, if I took three guitars to a gig, each in a different tuning, I'd be dizzy on stage. But then, you're about half my age and can pick up new things quicker. I'm still trying to figure out my cell phone...:smack:

Re: Tunings! What do you guys prefer?

Eb for my fun bedroom guitar playing

Dropped B for my original material

My tele and strat types are standard tuning.

Acoustics are in pairs... one in Eb and one in dropped B or C#

Re: Tunings! What do you guys prefer?

I usually just play in standard tuning. I'll use the occasional drop D if we need to cover a song that really requires it, or if there is no way around dropping that low string (has only happened once with this band I think). Aside from that, I'll use open G if I need to slide around. That's it.
