Tusq nut & tree

JB_From_Hell

Jomo's Nimions
Swung by the good local shop today (Guitar Attention Center, if you’re ever in Springfield, Ohio), and picked up a Tusq nut for my Strat. Ordered the trees. Gonna be a well-graphite impregnated machine when I’m through.

Re: Tusq nut & tree

Tusq is just an organic plastic. It has no "lubricating" properties beyond your typical cheap nut.

Tusq XL is the one that is inherently "lubricated" with PTFE, commonly known by one brand name for it, Teflon.

Graphite is not used in any type of Tusq.

Re: Tusq nut & tree

GraphTech also offers a material sold as NuBone in nuts and saddles. It is creamy in color, and shapes and cuts just like bone. It even smells like bone when sanded.

Re: Tusq nut & tree

I’ve got the tusq xl nut on my LP and also the graph tech saddles. They both work great.

Re: Tusq nut & tree

I think the Tusqxl material is PPS

If you look it up it has the same material attributes as described to Tusq
And the peices I have ordered have the glassy "ting" when dropped on a table just like the Tusq branded material

My PPS nuts are about $2 each
Come sized and pre slotted

Also my Dean Shire came with a PPS nut installed

Re: Tusq nut & tree

Graphtech is the name of a company, not the name of a material. The Graphtech company makes the Tusq line, none of which actually contain graphite.

Thx for the heads up. I don't like calling it Tusq.

PPS?

I would very much prefer some blanks over the pre-formed Tusq

Re: Tusq nut & tree

Tusq is impregnated with a metallic substance. I used to know the name of the stuff. It was originally designed to be wear resistant and help with string breakage, and then it was discovered to have a self lubricating property.

It’s more of a ceramic than a plastic, which is why it pings when you drop it.

It’s great stuff. I use it on all my builds.

Re: Tusq nut & tree

Whatever the hell is in it, I'm pissed that I forgot the nut at work today, so now I have to wait until next week to fit it.
