tusq

what do you guys think about tusq?
how does it compare to bone/ivory(on acoustic and electric guitars)...
Thanks!

Re: tusq

Put one on a guitar I had. I liked them and will get another one for a guitar I just got. If I remember, they are lubed, so it helps with tuning stability.

Re: tusq

I love tusq. Used it for a number of repairs and builds. It's easy to work, and sounds great. I believe it's the Black Tusq that's self lubricating.

Aye cap'n. Correct ye arrr! White Tusq is just a "highly resonant" bone substitute while Black Tusq contains PTFE (Teflon) which is slippery and acts as a lubricant.

Re: tusq

I use TUSQ XL in off white (don't know if there's a different in white or off white). It seems to be fine. I needed to replace the old nuts on my guitars (were fitted bad) and the TUSQ was the only one at Guitar Center that fit my guitars.

Re: tusq

I recently installed a Tusq XL nut in my Ibanez destroyer and damn! It really made a huge difference in tone compared to the crappy ol' plastic one.

Re: tusq

Love it, use it on everything I have.

Bang for the buck is insane. A great nut can SAVE a guitar.

Full disclosure, I have a $XXX set of nut files. ymmv

Re: tusq

I really like them. Ive put them on both my guitar builds. nice and resonant. Ive gone with the black xl both times. I also love the earvana compensated nuts

Re: tusq

I like them. I wish they came stock on more guitars. If my bridge wasn't a compensated wraparound I'd have gone for the Earvana, but the Tusq is great and it took care of a lot of my tuning problems.

Re: tusq

I've used Bone, Corian, Tusq, Black Tusq & Ivory. I like the Tusq a lot but for acoustic guitars Ivory is the bomb! Brighter and more resonant. On my electrics I only replace nuts & saddles when needed. I like the graphite saddles as on most guitars I have them on I never break a string.

Re: tusq

First time user of the Black Tusq and I hear a big difference in the sound. I have to try them on my beater as soon as I can.
