TV Jones Magna'tron vs Super'tron

I'm wondering which pickup would be better in my Gretsch G5420T. I know for sure that a Classic Plus is going in the bridge. I really like the single coil sound of the Magna'tron, but I read that the Super'tron handles dirt and OD better. So basically I'd like to know which I'd be missing out on more depending on what I choose- if I choose the Magna'tron, will I sacrifice being able to play harder tunes (AC/DC, Zeppelin, etc.) while keeping more sparkle and articulation, or if I choose the Super'tron, will I sacrifice more of that sparkle but be able to play better with dirt? Which will I sacrifice more? Can the Super'tron still sound as clear and sparkly as the Magna'tron? Or can the Magna'tron match the Super'tron's dirty tones better? Sorry if this sounds confusing, I just wanted to be as clear as possible.

I'd describe the Magna'tron as a Strat pickup voiced like a Filter'tron, super bright and eddy, where as a Super'tron is like a hotter Filter'tron, still very clear and great cleans, but with a softer attack and fuller tone than you'd get with a TV Classic. I think a TV Classic is more legitimately in between the two.

Cool, so do you think the Magna'tron can handle some drive nicely or should I compromise and get a TV Classic or Super'tron? I'd really like that sparkle of the Magna'tron, but if the classic or Super'tron can still chime nicely and handle dirt better, I'll take one of those two.

Not sure about the Magna'tron vs Super'tron. What I can tell you is that Classic Plus is hotter than you think. I had to back mine up a lot it was breaking up everything I plugged into. Once I had it set the pickup is amazing.

Re: TV Jones Magna'tron vs Super'tron

You can try a Magna'tron with drive and see if you like it, it's similar to driving low output Strat pickups. If you don't like it, I think the TV Classic is a lot versatile with respect to clean and dirt than other a Magna'tron or a Super'tron. The Gretsch OEM Filter'trons are good too.

Filter'trons have a unique response curve that makes them well suited for clean and dirt. The 1/4" AlNiCo bar and side by side humbucker layout ensures you get a good current, the low inductance ensures a high resonant peak, and the large screws create eddy currents that tame the resonant peak nicely. Roll back on the tone control a little and you can get it to bark like a PAF.

Thanks for your help you guys. I think I've decided to go with the Classic in the neck and the Classic Plus in the bridge!
