Twang Banger phase with V-Mod pickups

Hello!

I have an American Professional strat with V-Mod pickups in all three positions. From what I can tell in the product info I've found online, the middle pickup is RWRP to be hum cancelling.

Will I have any issues installing a standard Twang Banger in the bridge, in terms of phase and/or hum cancelling? I've heard SD pickups are wound differently, and I've only ever bought SD humbuckers.

Generally, most SD pickups are out of phase with modern Fender pickups. So, yes, there will be a phase issue.

Is there any way around this without changing the middle and neck pickups? I really like them as-is.

If you have:
- Fender neck
- Fender mid RWRP
- Fender bridge

And you want the SD twang banger in the bridge, what you can do is put the Fender middle RWRP in the neck, the Fender neck in the middle and the twang banger in the bridge. When you solder the SD swap the cables (hot and ground).

That way you'll have hum cancellation in 2 and 4 and no phase issues.

My guess is that neck and middle are identical except middle is RWRP so you'll have the sound you like.

Unless I'm wrong [emoji4] others please correct me if that's the case.

The V Mod neck and middle are both unique, they're each a mix of A2, A3 and A5 magnets voiced for each string, so they're unfortunately not interchangeable.

Get it.

You can likely order a bridge twang banger that would hum cancel from the SD custom shop.

But frankly, you would really need to love your current pickups IMHO and want hum cancellation in B+M to do that vs swapping in a new full set or adding it as is.

I would personally drop in a standard twang banger and have a push pull/switch to add the neck pickup. That way you could have neck+bridge, which would be hum free.

its not that hard to flip the magnetic phase of a pup. where are you located? the custom shop will make you want you need. you may be able to get rw/rp without going full custom shop though

You're right, wind/polarity shows as a custom floor option (#6) so it may be cheaper than full custom shop.

I have custom shop floor rwrp twang banger. Bought it used but I recall previous owner said it was something like 125 € new...
