I hear alot of good things about the twang banger and might give one a shot for the bridge in my Jimmy Vaughn strat with my 2 ssl-1s.What other single coil does the twang banger most sound like?Ive tried several others and Im just tryin to get an idea of what the twang banger's tone is like.Thanks yall,Jason

They sound quite a bit like a good Tele bridge pup. Nice and round with good mids and without the ice pick in the forehead treble.

I'm thinking about this, too. My question is, what middle pickup to use to keep as much "quack" as possible? Should it be extra strong, to try to match the twangbanger, or maybe extra bright to counter some of the TB's lesser highs than usual?

The TwangBanger/SSL1 combo is killer.
You definately want the SSL1 in the middle, to give you a good "clucking." Anything higher output would sacrifice cluck for sure.
To compare to other pickups:
Hotter, fuller, smoother than a SSL1 bridge.
Less output, clearer, more detailed than the SSL3 Hot. The SSL3 is fat, but not that detailed.
I'd rank the Twangbanger inbetween these two. The twangbanger sounds DANG close to my Fender NoCaster bridge pickup, which I love.
Honestly, dude, you can't get any better than this set in a strat. I went thru TONS of pickup changes, and I'm finally done with seraching. THIS is the tone right here.

To me, it sounds closest to a Strat version of the SD Jerry Donahue Tele lead pickup -- still a Strat tone, but with a bit of Tele mids a la the JD Tele lead. As already noted, it works well with SSL-1's at neck and middle, as well as with the APS1's I imagine.
