Twangbanger Feedback

I bought a SD Twangbanger used several years ago, but never installed it in a guitar until a couple of months ago. I had it installed in a hardtail Strat body. The other two pickups are a Fender 57/62 in the neck and a MIJ RW/RP in the middle. I’ve had both of the other 2 in guitars before. Bottom line is I love the guitar and the Twangbanger, but it is quite microphonic, not terribly so, but it will squeal at high volumes. The other 2 pickups don’t do this. Also when using either positions 1 or 2, when I turn the volume control from less than full up to full up I hear a metallic “clinking” sound. I have replaced the pickup height adjustment springs on that pickup with rubber tubing and have put foam down in the pickup cavity but that made absolutely no difference. Should I replace the pickup, possibly send it to SD for repair, or what?

Yes it seems to be attached ok but how can I check to see if is attached adequately? I’ve read of folks putting additional wax in there but I’m not too handy at those sort of things. I really like the pickup (except when it squeals).

You certainly could have it re-potted, either by SD or yourself. It isn't hard to do, but if there are any doubts, send it in. I haven't heard any reports of it being microphonic.

I emailed SD customer support and was told they weren’t taking any non- warranty repair jobs at this time. They said check back with them in late June.

Somebody on the forum might be able to do it for you. Or read up on previous posts to see how to do it yourself.
