Twangbanger Users,Caution And A Question

STRATDELUXER97

First...Make sure you have a good wax seal between the copper base plate and the base of the pickup before you install this pickup or you will have bigtime microphonics!...Before installing my Twangbanger I noticed the plate was loose and there was a huge gap between the center of the plate where it met the pickup...My fix was to take large flakes of wax and set it so it was sandwiched between the plate and the pickup..

I then "lightly" clamped the brass plate and used a hair dryer to melt the wax....I Let the wax dry for the amount of time it took me to remove my bridge position Surfer pickup...

Now my question....

My 1st string pole piece on my Twangbanger actually sits a bit below the plastic cover pole hole...The Surfer's 1st string pole was flush with it? No big deal, but is this the norm and is it like that on yours also? I don't like the cover over the pole myself...I'll live with it by bringing the pickup up a bit....I have to go listen to this thing and see what it does? Cross your fingers for me please! :22: :13:

Check out the 1st string pole and how low it is...I don't like it but I guess I can live with it...

Re: Twangbanger Users,Caution And A Question

Looks like both "B" string poles are the same on the middle and neck Surfers though also...

Is your Twangbanger by any chance staggered for left hand applications? I don't own a TB, mind you, just wondering.

I install all of my righty stagger pickups "backwards" onto my pickguards so I can get the correct stagger like you righthanders! :smack:  :)

On my Twangbanger and at least 2 others I have seen the HIGH "E" polepiece was low? Yours is just the opposite...
EVAN?

Re: Twangbanger Users,Caution And A Question

As for melting the wax, I just heat the bassplate up with a soldering tool until the wax melts and then I press it in place and hold it there until the wax hardens again...only takes a few seconds to harden up again.

As for the polepieces, mine come through the cover just fine and look like the G & D are raised a bit, the B & A are raised a little and the E's not raised at all. So what I have on my Twangbanger is the poles arranged in an even arch.

Don't know why your looks the way it does John.

But I do know I love the Twangbanger pickup! It's bright but not to bright. And it's fat, chunky and sassy in tone.

I'd describe the tone as being right inbetween a Duncan Tele Antiquity Lead and a Duncan Jerry Donahue Tele pickup. All three are alnico 2 pickups, BTW.

don't wanna hijack but short question which i'm interested in:

why is on neck and mid pos. the polepiece of the 2nd string the lowest?
makes no sense to me...

Pete....Actually it is the high E that is low on mine..I place my staggered pickups on my guard backwards so I can get the correct stagger...In other words,my pickup wires all face the neck on the bottom of my pickguard and not the bridge...

Lew....I need to go back in again for further surgery to rewire the TB...Something tells me I may have the cover sitting on top of one of the wires...I may just have to move the wire away from the cover and that'll give me the extra pole height I'm lacking...I've done this before... :smack:
