Twangbanger vs. Surfer Bridge

I have a set of surfers in my Strat, but I've a;ways been curious about the Twangbanger.

I absolutely love the tone I get whn I throw a litte overdrive on it, especially for rhythm guitar. Give's me a nice Beatles or Stones vibe.

I kinda want something with a little more clarity and jangle, rather than a bell ike chime when clean which is the best I can describe it :smack:

I know StratDeluxe replaced his Surfer with a Banger, hopefully him and a few others can give me some input on this

Re: Twangbanger vs. Surfer Bridge

The Twangbanger has alot more mids and less treble than the Surfer Custom Bridge pikcup. It responds to overdrive a little differantly and is less glassy and less shrill.

But it's also less transparent and compromises the bridge/middle combined tone just a little. It's still great though!

Re: Twangbanger vs. Surfer Bridge

I have a Twangbanger that replaced and SSL-1 in one Strat, and a Texas Hot Custom bridge in another, so I can get close to a comparison that might help. The Ant THCB seems to have a more open and dynamic tone with a stronger low end than the Twangbanger, but the Twangbanger has wonderful mids and a smooth singing quality that sounds very nice. I think the Ant is closer to a classic Strat bridge tone for rhythm and lead, whereas the Twangbanger falls somewhere between a Strat and a Tele lead tone (not as Tele-ish as advertised, but certainly a nod in that direction).

In the end, it's best to own a Strat with one of each. :smokin:

And I do! :) But all in all, I like the Ant Tex Hot Custom just a little better, and for the reasons you said. I've put baseplates on several, BTW, and the guys have loved them...makes them a little thicker and deeper still. Lew

I had a set of Texas hotsa, and didn't really like them. I like the surfer's a lot better

Lew, how would the tone be affected by putting a baseplate on a Surfer Custom bridge? And, what does the baseplate do anyway?
