Tweaked Marshall 1987s clips pt 2

Bullet Proof Toneologist
So I think I got her dialed in, lotta messing in the past week.... I wanted it to be big and fat w/o any mud and I think I am there. I got the lowered filtering in the mail yesterday and it made the difference I hoped for. I got the amp as a very bright, aggressive, split cathode screamer, and have tamed it a bit, Shared cathode, upped a few cap values to fatten her up, no volume bright cap, and a pair of Shuguang EL34b, far and away my favorite new power tube. Big, girthy, open and smooth...

Here is a my Flying V ( Epi) in action I switch to the neck pickup at about 1:20, the amp doesn't muck out which pleases me greatly... I think I can put her back in the box... No PTP swaps, no transformer swaps, just a few lil changes and I think I got a killer early RI head now. :)

Re: Tweaked Marshall 1987s clips pt 2

hee hee..sounds even better than the first clip.

I was listening as I browsed through some other pages and at about 50 seconds I REALLY got a early (demo ) EVH vibe out of the tone..hit me outta nowhere...sounded alot like his old Ibby destroyer!

Great score bro!

BTW, what pups you runnin in the EPI V (and is it the 58 style V or the 67?)

Nice indeed! More gain than I thought I was gonna hear also. It's a screamer alright. Nice and fat without being TOO fat and ungainly.

Thanks man!

I think I know the tune your are talking about, off of the VH1 test tracks. "we die young" or whatever the name is. I went into those chords cause I too was reminded of that sound. The V really adds a lower mid thing that reminds me a bit of my Explorer, which in turn reminds me of early Halen,,,lol.

I have a 67 with HighOrder 8.3 A2 in the bridge and 6.8 A3 in the neck. .01 cap on the bridge tone and .0068 on the neck.

Really loving the amp.......

Thats kinda what I think. I only had it around 6 1/2 on the dial, no channel jumping. It really kicks it...

I keep listening to this in the evenings when I get home. Just a great clip, Bro. Awesome raunchy 70s type marshall tone. Nothing fancy-just pure rock-which is where marshalls shine. The High orders sound great too...very t-top-ish :bigthumb:

Many thanks Mr B.

I really dig that amp and a room mic for me, is my favorite way to record. Keeps it looser, I may lose a little detail, but the raw, open feel is what really inspires me now.
