hi,

im after a fuzz pedal. im looking at value for moeny more than anything. and at the price of around £50 i have the options of the big muf, SD Tweakfuzz and maybe the new visual sound angryfuzz when it coems out (no idea about retail price)

im thinking this can be a thread for peo;le who ahve tried or own a tweak fuzz the good points and the let downs.

please advise :)

Re: tweakfuzz...any opions or advice on a fuzz pedal?

Big Muff's are a classic fuzztone. Think Gilmour, or more modern, Smashing Pumpkins.

I've never tried the tweak fuzz myself, but a few other I'd really consider are the Zvex Fuzz Factory, its totally crazy in alot of settings but it can get plenty of "normal" fuzz tones as well, most versatile out there. Think of Matt Bellamy of Muse as he really puts that pedal to full effect.

Couple others that I think are very nice are the Fulltone '69, The Roger Mayer Axis fuzz, and I'm curious to give the new Dunlop Fuzz Face a try to see if they've improved that. Theres no shortage of other face face clones out though.

Analogman has a couple worth looking into as well.

I'm not sure if all those would fall quite into your price range but at least used they should be reasonablely close. I've found some actually rather cheap on ebay of all places if your timing is right.

Nice thing about Fuzz pedals is that they don't really have the huge demand that OD/DIstortion pedals do, or analog delays so the prices arent always insane

Re: tweakfuzz...any opions or advice on a fuzz pedal?

what pedals does matt bellamy use to get the fuzz sounds he uses?

thats pretty much the sound im after

Re: tweakfuzz...any opions or advice on a fuzz pedal?

Yep, Fuzz Factory. It's basically a Fuzz Face type circuit with controls replacing fixed value resistors so you can get some wild sounds. Check out the ZVex site for some video demos of it (and all his other pedals).

The Tweak Fuzz is also based on the Fuzz Face, but it's at the other end of the spectrum, very polite and easy to control. The 6 position knob acts like a very usable tone control, to go from fizzy and bright all the way to wooly and full. (I can cop a great early Gilmour with it)

The Big Muff is an entirely different animal. While there is a fuzz face circuit in there somewhere, there are an additional 2 gain stages to really push it over the top. Add in the mid scooped tone control and it's a completely different beast than a FF. Tons of bass, wall of fuzz, possibly my favorite effect after analog delay. (Later Gilmour and Smashing Pumpkins depending on the setting)

Also, as Milsart elluded to, there are a multitude of clones and improvements available. I love the Fuzz Face clones of Analogman, Foxrox and BYOC, I also hear the latest Dunlop Hendrix one is outstanding (unlike all the other Dunlops FF's). As far as Muffs go, I really like everything Skreddy makes, Euthymia ICBM as well as the BYOC. Finally, Tonefactor makes the Huckleberry, it's the Fuzz Face circuit with a Big Muff tone stack, pretty cool.

Check Youtube for multiple clips of all the above pedals.

out of the fuzz face, tweak fuzz and the fuzz factory which one would you reccomend for value for money?

Re: tweakfuzz...any opions or advice on a fuzz pedal?

I like the Fulltone fuzz pedals personally. The 69 is pretty neat.

The Fulltone 69 is my favorite fuzz of all time. It's a Fuzzface clone, and the best sounding version of it that I've ever owned. Lew

Re: tweakfuzz...any opions or advice on a fuzz pedal?

It depends on how crazy/sane you want it to be. If you like the over-the-top craziness of the Fuzz Factory, that's the way to go. The Vexter version is silkscreened instead of hand painted, so it's a it cheaper but it's still like $180 I think. It can venture into the 'normal' category, but it'll never be as smooth and refined as the Tweak Fuzz.

The only true 'Fuzz Face' branded pedal I'd buy is that new blue Hendrix one I mentioned. If you can solder and want en excellent Fuzz Face clone, the BYOC is tough to beat. Otherwise listen to clips on sites to find the one that fits you.

For value, a used Tweak Fuzz on ebay isn't a bad option, you can probably get one for $50 I bet.

Re: tweakfuzz...any opions or advice on a fuzz pedal?

+1 for me on the new Hendrix FuzzFace, very curious to check it out and it certainly looks sweet on a pedal board.

I'd say the Big Muff is a "must have" as well simply because its such a classic sound and very cheap. At least here in the states a new little big muff is only $66.

Fuzz Factory is a little pricey unless you really want what it can offer, its a crazy pedal but it would be the best bet for getting the Muse sound. It might be rather pricey on your side of the pond though. Granted that so are most of the other clones as well though so for bang for the buck in the higher end its the way to go.

i cant really afford the fuzz factory (at least yet) so im looking a the tweak fuzz and the big muff (usa)

i tihnk the tweak fuzz ahs a bit more to offer in terms of versatility and with my jekyl & hyde overdrive pedal or a SD pikcup booster i might be able to get a bit more from the tweak fuzz.

Re: tweakfuzz...any opions or advice on a fuzz pedal?

look around for prices on a used mjm london fuzz. its the pedal that i use and i have no desire what so ever to think about replacing it. its a great pedal

Re: tweakfuzz...any opions or advice on a fuzz pedal?

get a modded big muff. stay away from zvex unless you want noise, when you are not playing.

Dude, the Fuzz Factory does have a gate you know so its very silent and then comes in with some insane fuzz tones when you play. Have you actually played one and if so did you not adjust the gate settings correctly ?

Re: tweakfuzz...any opions or advice on a fuzz pedal?

i cant really aford a fuzz factory to be honest. i think im after a tweak fuzz or a big muff. and seing as ive heard the tweak fuzz more and you cna get quite a lot of varying sounds from it, i think im leaning towards that at the moment.

Re: tweakfuzz...any opions or advice on a fuzz pedal?

Tweak Fuzz isn't a bad pedal but its not really going to get the Bellamy/Muse tone. Neither is a Big Muff though really.

You might just want to save your money a little longer if thats the style/tone your after because if you buy either of the other two you'll probably be selling them for a loss only to buy a Fuzz Factory later because its really the only thing that can nail that tone

Re: tweakfuzz...any opions or advice on a fuzz pedal?

hi,

im after any fuzz sound to be honest. i have litle expereince in fuzz pedals/tones and it would be kool to get that matt bellamy crazy fuz but its not THE sound i need.

im after experimenting with fuzz and then maybe when i know the sound i need to get that particular pedal. i cannot even find a fuzz factory in the Uk on ebay or anytihng to get a price range. ive just seen one go for about £60 i think it was.

wether as i can get a tweakl fuzz for around £30-£40
