Tweed Madness?

A buddy just gave me a Lil' Peavey Decade amp 1x8 combo. With some cheap Iron from Weber and parts sourced else where, I figure around $150 to turn this Lil' puppy into a Tweed Champ. IS THIS CRAZY? I have no other use for this amp. The hardess part I can see is cutting the chassis for the laydown PT. And drilling the holes for the power and Rec. tube. I have a 3/4 drill bit so the pre tube will be easy. I'll have a lot of Dremeling to do with the others.
So what da think? Go for it? or forget it, Just plain stupid?

if it's fun for you to do so -> go for it.
i wouldn't care if anybody else likes it, if wanted to have it like that - if were you...
if you use it for jam sessions, may also look cool in snakeleather-tolex...
but tweed rocks all the time - tweed it man

You can buy a chassis for 40-50 bucks and save yourself a lot of work.

I found a source for a stand up PT.:banana: Maybe a Lil' harder to wire up? But much easier to install. Works for a 5F2 Tweed Princeton too. Looks like this may become a Tweed Princeton !

I've got a Princeton 5F2-A kit waiting for a couple of minor parts and the soldering iron right now: 5F2-A schematic & layout

Found a couple of good comments about Triode Electronics over on the Fender Discussion Page. Allen makes a beefed up PT for Champs, etc. that has a great reputation but costs a bit more (and lays down). Also, Antique Electrical Supply has stand-up Hammond PT's for even less - one of those might work.

What about the existing 8" speaker? IIRC Weber's 8" Signature Series (lower cost - relatively cheap at $35 for an alnico magnet) are supposed to be pretty good.

Chassis sources: Mojo Musical Supply, Weber VST, and CeriaTone for pre-drilled. Antique Electrical Supply and others for naked boxes.

Gonna be a tight fit ! 11x5 chassis. Looks like it's gonna be a 5F2-A Princeton!
the board is 7 1/4 by 2 5/8. This is smaller than the PCB in it now,Which is good cuz' I need room to drill the tube sockets. I might have to get a Lil' creative with the chassis? But with all my measurements and calculation's it looks like it will fit. Notice it has 5 knobs. This works out good. Vol,Tone,Fuse, pilot light and Switch.
