Tweed Twin update

ok......I moved the Twin out into the living room so that i could turn it up without destroying my hearing (HA!!!) and sterilizing the neighbor's cat.:laugh2: Mine has the 12AY7 vintage tube setup in the preamp section, but it still has both rectifier tubes in place. I turned it way up and bottom line is that i could probaly sell the Plexi:eek13: This thing gets much nastier than I ever thoght it could. i was riffing on some Judas Priest (Head Out to the Highway) and It sounded VERY right. I was not expecting that. This amp particularly loves both of the Les Pauls. Now It won't do metal, I'm sure, but then again, neither will a plexi without a stomp box of some kinds. I've now concluded that even though he sounded great at the Cream reunion show, Clapton never had those Twins turned up much beyond halfway. I would highly recommend that any of you guys who love the old dirt rock genre go check one of these things out.

Re: Tweed Twin update

It just goes to show you, don't underestimate the power of tweed.

Re: Tweed Twin update

Tweedy Goodness as someone on here said a few weeks ago.:fingersx: I got mine on Ebay for $1500 with the NOS 12ay7's and a spare NOS RCA 12ax7 thrown in, which was a hell of a deal. But at the end of the day, you can buy a new one with the 5 year warranty for $2100-2200 tops all day long from the big guys. Glad Fender finally wised up......now if they would only build handwired Twin, Princeton and Deluxe Reverbs and maybe a real Tweed Bassman, Deluxe and Bandmaster to keep the Twin company:fingersx:

Re: Tweed Twin update

I want a tweed badly... From how you describe it, it sounds like an 6L6 version of my peavey classic!

My peavey classic does judas priest very well but it just needs to lose some of the EL84 mush...

Re: Tweed Twin update

i dont think el84 turn to mush (LISTEN TO A CRANKED VOX) my fave amps. I wouldnt think a peavey classic would compare to a twin but i have neva played either so i cant say for sure.

Re: Tweed Twin update

It sounds like one awesome amp. Tweed amps are awesome, the bridge between blackface Fender cleans and Marshall distortion. Not always spot on, but pretty damn close. I've loved every tweed amp I tried, especially the Twin (the Bassman was very nice too).

Re: Tweed Twin update

YES! Sounds like I made a good decision on what amp I want! I was going to get that amp too. Nastier than a plexi? Nice! Have fun. All you need is the reverb unit with the REAL tubes.

Re: Tweed Twin update

i use the Deluxe for reverb purposes. Gotta figure the best way to run 2 amps together.

Re: Tweed Twin update

My 57 twin is killer for rock and blues and even a few Jazz tunes,I use a antunator wit mine and can crank up and still be at good volume,It sounds really good with the Zendrive and RC boost.
I also installed hotter GT 6L6GE,s,took out the stock tubes that came with the amp cause they where pretty cold bias, also run one 5V4 rectifier tube,These are some great amps, and from what I have heard that they are not making any more just a limited amount,Maybe someone else knows more?:smokin:

Im not sure. If it was a limited amount, they would advertise it as that. Its already been out for more than 2 years (came out in Jan '04) and I guess people are just descovering them more recently. I remember reading reviews a while ago when people were saying, "O, I baught the Bassman reissue instead of the Twin-Amp reissue because its basically the same thing besides the handwiring and the size." Well anyway, it BETTER not be limited amount because Ill have to kill someone to get my hands on one!

Re: Tweed Twin update

Tweed RAWKS!

I really don't think most people (especially younger folk) are aware what a great rock amp a Tweed Bassman or suttin, really is. They really are my fave Fender amps, and the only Fender stuff I really GAS for.

I played an old late 50s (58 or 59, cannot remember) Tweed Bassman that guy had hooked up to a 4x12 greenback cab (20Watters , IIRC) and it was ABSOFREAKINLUTELY AMAZING.

But just like a NMV Marshall or 2203/2204...you gotta crank the beejesus outta the things.
