Twin reverb appreciation thread.

I have not plugged into it for a while because lets fact it, the damn things are heavy to drag to a gig, but i plugged in last night.

Damn.

What an amazing amp.

Every time i plug into a twin reverb I get so inspired by the lush and rich and expansive sounds i can get out of it. It is like walking straight into one of those beautiful wood panelled recording studios from the 1960s where all those amazing records were made with people like Ray Charles or Nancy Sinatra and being told you are given free rein.

Such a beautiful amp. Equally great with fenders or gibsons. Just pure tone and the most lush reverb you will ever hear. And trem, deep, pulsing and mysterious. Its all in there.

I will never sell mine.

Chime in if you know what I'm talking about. The twin is truly a king among amps.

I owned a '70s SF 135-watt Twin for about 30 minutes one day back around 1992. I paid $250 for it used, and it was a total wreck. Cabinet was broken at one top corner, two mis-matched speakers, four mis-matched power tubes--each from a different maker. Vinyl hanging off, broken knobs--just totally beat to hell.

And when I plugged it in, it sounded fabulous! Just kicked butt!

Drove it down to a local store, and traded it for my Peavey XR600C PA head. Was a really good deal for me.

In my distant past there was a love affair with a used '66 BF, but I just didn't have the money at the time, and I've always regretted not getting that amp. I've loved my other Fenders: a '65 DR, '64 Tremolux, '65 Bandmaster, Super Champ and a Fender 75. These days, I'm happy with the Mesa amps because of the versatility.

But, Twins are great amps--no doubt about it.

I always wanted one, until I lifted one. Good Lord.

They are fantastic amps though, used them on a backline for a couple of gigs lately.

It is 4x12 it is a beast. I took out the Utah speakers and put in 16 ohm Celestion G12T-75s. They are better suited for hard rock/metal and take to gain well. They give the amp a lot of thump in the bass perfect for those deep dark heavy power chords.

True story. Around 99, I saw that Hollywood Guitar Center was selling Twin Reverbs for $550 and bought one from Madonna's guitar player, Monte Pittman, before he landed his guitar teacher gig for Madonna, which then became his position in her band.

I didn't bond with the reissue, and ended my search with a blackfaced 74 silver Pro Reverb that was in the hands of Aspen Pittman, Greg Leon, Pittman's cousin, then me. It's a keeper.

It's like a 40W Twin, but essentially a 212 Super Reverb. This is one of Seymour's favorite amps, and hopefully his reference amp for single coils, since he's got two blackface Pro Reverbs in his office in front of his desk.

i have a '69 dual showman reverb thats been blackfaced, basically a twin reverb in a head. such a great amp but i never use it except at home. so big and punchy! there is something about four 6l6's through two 12's and fender reverb that is just magical

Oh man, if you REALLY want to do some strength training, get it loaded up with some JBL D/E-120s or EVMs!!! The JBLs were a factory option for Fender amps back then....making for a MANLY amp.

My Mark III and Mark IV 112 combos with the EVM are just as heavy as a Twin, but it's a little more manageable with the smaller box.

And I don't understand how they gain 50 lbs. by the end of the gig!
