Twin Tube Classic - SFX-03 - Problem

Hi,

I'll try to explain here (sorry, my english is not good):

I bought one (used) and I was so happy. This pedal is awesome!
But, after playing a while, it powers off and on quickly, returning to the bypass setting.
This doesn't always happen, but i played in several places where this occurred.

What could be the problem?

Do I need to always use a stabilizer or no-break for this pedal? Is it so sensitive?
Would be a problem I carrying this everywhere.

Thanks, and sorry for my english.

The easiest thing to check first: use a deox. spray cleaner on the jacks and all pots.
If that is unsuccessful after a couple of tries, contact Seymour Duncan for a return to their facility for repairs. They're very good about this.

Re: Twin Tube Classic - SFX-03 - Problem

Can i use the WD-40 for cleaning?

A return to their facility for repairs would be difficult, cause I live in Brazil, and I don't know a seymour duncan's assistence here. :/

I think that could be a problem in the power supply or in the internal transformer.
I opened the sfx-03 just to see, and I noticed that the internal transformer was different from pictures I saw on the internet.

There is any problem?

Re: Twin Tube Classic - SFX-03 - Problem

I would avoid using WD-40. It can leave an oily deposit.

I use Servisol Super 10 for pots, switches, jacks and similar components or Fospro for mixer fader tracks.

The powering issue could be as simple as dirty contacts in the power supply socket or weakened soldering joints where this socket is mounted on the PCB. You have nothing to lose by removing each valve in turn to clean its pins and base socket.

Obviously, disconnect the pedal from the electricity supply before attempting this.

Thank you NotCardio, but i'm using the Google Translate to help me. :/

Can I use Isopropyl alcohol for the cleaning?

And about the internal transformer, is it ok? I don't know about eletronic's stuff, but I think it isn't the original one.

Re: Twin Tube Classic - SFX-03 - Problem

Yes, you can use Isopropyl alcohol. Go easy with it and let it dry.
No idea about the transformer.

You are not the only person that uses google translate. No need to apologize, as you did fine and we can understand you.

Compared to Spanish or Portuguese, English is a very difficult language. Our verb tenses are different. Syntax is different. And English has a great deal of slang terms.

Also, there are a great of adults in the U.S. that cant write a simple sentence correctly.

Well, I won't have time during the week, so I'll try the cleaning and tests in the weekend.

Do I need to use surge supressors, voltage regulators, UPS, for the Twin Tube?
(I wrote "stabilizer" and "no-break" on the first post, but I think those are the correct terms).

Condemned soul, I always heard that Portuguese (and Spanish too) was more difficult. There are too many grammatical rules, tenses, exceptions, irregularities. But I think all languages have their difficulties.
On here, it is common grammatical errors that occur even in the newspaper.

Re: Twin Tube Classic - SFX-03 - Problem

Ok, I'll look for that or some similar.

I had some time today and I was playing for about 2 hours, and I realized that the power supply was warmer than usual.
Is this related to the same problem?

Hard to tell! Too hot to touch?
Are you certain the power supply is designed for the voltage that is standard in your country (check it's label)? If it's for USA use, it's 110/115 vac.

Re: Twin Tube Classic - SFX-03 - Problem

There might have been a component change at some point, but what you show in your photo looks like the correct, fully-encapsulated toroidal transformer.

Not so hot, I can touch, but it's more than usual.

I think the voltage for power supply is right. The power supply is: INPUT: 120VAC, 60 Hz, 18W(I don't know about this); OUTPUT: 16VAC, 600mA.
Here the voltage is 127V, 60 Hz, so I think it's ok (or not?)

Uhm... I had asked because I saw on the internet that it was light-brown, beige, and mine is blue. As I said, I don't know about eletronic's stuff :B
Thank you, by the way.

I would certainly think so.

Re: Twin Tube Classic - SFX-03 - Problem

Isopropyl alcohol is fine IMO. I used to use WD 40, but no longer use it or recommend it for electronics. It does leave a sticky residue.

Re: Twin Tube Classic - SFX-03 - Problem

Hello guys!
Sorry I was very busy these days.
Well... I didn't find this DEOX, so I bought one similar contact cleaner.
I just applied the spray.
I'll do some tests and I'll be back later with feedback.
If it works definitely, I'll be very grateful for you guys!
Actually, I already am.

Re: Twin Tube Classic - SFX-03 - Problem

I have a Twin Tube Mayhem and I've noticed that the power supply jack is sort of loose in the socket and even the plug end seems to be a bit loose connecting to an outlet. Make sure that it's not making an intermittent connection at either end.

Re: Twin Tube Classic - SFX-03 - Problem

Well... I did some tests, and the problem came back :/
It seems like this occurs randomly and occasionally.

Now I'm starting to be afraid, cause I don't know when the problem will occur :/
Of course, that can be momently solved, just turning it on again. But this disrupts my performance, which makes me sad, cause that is a great pedal.
If I were to play just at home, there would be no problem. But I need to do some little shows.

Hm, I think that isn't the problem, cause I can wiggle, shake and pull the wire and nothing happens.

Re: Twin Tube Classic - SFX-03 - Problem

Did you clean it multiple times? It is sometimes necessary to remove all the oxidation.

Re: Twin Tube Classic - SFX-03 - Problem

I tried a couple of times, but maybe not enough.
I will try more times and then I'll come back here.

Do I need to disassemble all the pedal? Because I just opened the lid and applied the spray at all the spots.
I'm afraid to unscrew it all and ruin it.

ps.: I've noticed that the Twin Tube blinks sometimes, but not enough to shut down.
