thanks Kac...glad you like it...i never asked are you keeping the rude monkey on the guard...i love that little guy lol...either way it's yours now so don't feel bad if it's off or coming off...i was just curious!

Well, for now it's still on there... My girlfriend likes it, but I'm not sure that I dig it too much... well it might still be a little while before i put strings on it, so it'll stay on there till I make up my mind for sure. I do like the decals you put on your guitars though, customizing is kool.

Rock On :13:

Re: "Twistedcaster" 99% done now...(and other guitar makeovers)

ahhhh so your girlfriend likes the big banana...i see :laugh2:

that, like i mentioned to you was my straight foward one knob punk guitar and the monkey just fit the theme so well hehehehehe. i actually miss that one a bit it was a good player IMO...so my new pewter parts strat i posted a pic of is going to be a one hum one knob guitar to replace it.

Re: "Twistedcaster" 99% done now...(and other guitar makeovers)

those are some amazing guitars dude! love the inlay work on the tele.

Re: "Twistedcaster" 99% done now...(and other guitar makeovers)

The Twistedcaster is by far the coolest looking tele I have ever seen. It looked great before the inlays, but now it just ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You have great taste!!!! One day, I may have to steal that tele..... :D

Re: "Twistedcaster" 99% done now...(and other guitar makeovers)

by the way... how does one go around making those type of inlays?

I would still give my left nut for that Copper Les Paul.
I'd give both my jewels up for that LP. I wouldn't need them anyway.

Re: "Twistedcaster" 99% done now...(and other guitar makeovers)

Damn, that TwistedCaster is friggin bad the F a$$. Me wants! LOL

If you don't mind, how much did Mirabella charge to do that? Silver is one of my favorite Fender colors.....should have never sold my silver/rosewood/black moto guard Am Std Strat. The tortoise guard looks surprisingly cool on the yellow strat, too.

I love your guitars!

Re: "Twistedcaster" 99% done now...(and other guitar makeovers)

Wow dude most of your Guitars are just my taste... really cool... but one question.. where did you get that chrome hss strat pickguard?

Re: "Twistedcaster" 99% done now...(and other guitar makeovers)

thanks everyone!!!

about how to do the inlay work...this is how i do it...bring it to my friend/luthier Cris and tell him what i want, he takes it from there lol...inlay work is an art and not something everyone can do b/c you can screw up a neck real bad if you slip with the router or dremel.

Gearjonser...thanks man, as you know you have one of my all time favorite strats...i'm still searching for a blueburst body (or whole guitar). i don't think i should say what i paid for the inlay work since Cris cut me a bit of a deal since he did, inlay work, new nut, fret leveling and a setup all at once on it...along with tons of other work on my other guitars. if you want to send me a PM i can give you a rough ballpark idea. as for the tele, it's actually pewter, which is more of a charcoal color (i guess it was a bit bright in the pics) rather than a silver...it's my favortie fender color and i plan on doing another "tele-gib esquire" starting with a pewter and rosewood tele next! the pickguard on the yellow strat is a deep red mother of pearl so it does look a bit like tortise...everyone thinks it is in pics but in person it's very red and looks wild on the yellow!

Kommerzbassist: the pickguard on the sunburst strat is from wdmusic.com it's a mirror guard so it looks alot like chrome.

also i just realized i need to take better pics of the inlays b/c all the crosses and flames are outlined in silver but it got a bit washed out in the pics....sorry i rushed them. i'll snap some closeups later.

again, thanks everyone!

Re: "Twistedcaster" 99% done now...(and other guitar makeovers)

Mike, do you think that being a graphic designer leads you onto creating the most ass-kickin' beeeeautiful guitars on the planet? Well, it's a rhetorical question - I'm considering that path so I too can craft wonderful stuff like that. :)

As I have pointed out in the past, the pic of your MIM Sunburst Strat with mirror pickguard is deeply contained within my hard drive.

Keep it up!

I still think that's the best looking Strat I've ever seen.

Do you do this as work? or is it just a hobby? How do I get one of these pimp'd jobs done?

Re: "Twistedcaster" 99% done now...(and other guitar makeovers)

Hey this one looks quite like the strat I wanted to build for so long but didn't had the money (I'm a student you know)... finally it's gonna happen in about one month.. but mine will look even better imo ;)

Re: "Twistedcaster" 99% done now...(and other guitar makeovers)

Yeah I was there yesterday... the Dragon is veeery nice allthough I think it doesn't fit the Guitar it's on...

Re: "Twistedcaster" 99% done now...(and other guitar makeovers)

Rainmaker...rhetorical question or not, i think that can be answered...it may be the other way around lol...since i was a kid i modified everything to fit my style...skateboards, bikes, R/C cars, even model cars...as i got older i got into modifying real cars big time and have built several multi-time show winning cars so it was only natural that since i play guitar that they be modified to fit my style also...i can't leave anything alone, i just love to create things that look cool...this is what lead me to graphic design i think...the desire to create good looking things that others can enjoy.

Closed Eye..i don't do the guitar stuff at work, i do it on my free time as i hobby i guess you could say, and since i work freelance as a graphic designer i have lots of free time since i set my own schedule...that's why i'm on here alot when i should be working hahaha. as for getting a "job" done that's all up to you to do, i don't modify others guitars or anything like that...i can help you out with some ideas though if you wanted.

Dave...your right, they came out great and everyone who has seen them loves it! it's just a wild thing to see on a tele!!

Re: "Twistedcaster" 99% done now...(and other guitar makeovers)

XSSIVE dude,

your copper LP is one of the most attractive LPs i've even seen. wish i could have a look in person. I think u've mention before that its a prototype. How did u get it? from what year is it? how many did they make? how much did u pay for it?
what exactly is that finish anyway?always wanted to ask you abt it. i'd be happy if you could eleborate on it.hehehe.. really interested in that LP, altho the others are also killers... love the what you've done to the black LP too.

Re: "Twistedcaster" 99% done now...(and other guitar makeovers)

pac...

ok, let me see here...it is indeed a prototype the ONLY one in it's color with it's features...there are however two others that were in a set (i guess you could call them a set) of 3 prototypes...there is mine which is metallic copper paint with chrome hardware...then there is a metallic blue with chrome hardware and then a metallic red with gold hardware (these belong to members of the les paul forums if i'm not mistaken but i'm still trying to track them down). so it's the only one in it's color of a "set" of 3 prototypes made for a line of customs that combined the looks of the now out of production limited edition studios (that's where the color comes from, the copper studios) with the fancy binding of the customs and the no inlay ebony board of the limited edition studios. the other cool feature of it which i love is the headstock it's straight foward clean and simple all it has is the gibson logo in pearl with no "les paul" text and no etching on the truss rod cover (pic below). as for year it's a 2002 i made sure and e-mailed the serial # to gibson asking about it. i got it from tatooedcarrot on the forums who got it from daves guitars online if i'm not mistaken. i rather not talk about price but i'll be honest and say i paid less than most think it would cost and less than i have been offered for it (no, i'll never sell it unless the price offered is just insane lol). thanks for the comments on the black LP to...that one although it's a limited ediition is my main LP i play...no hiding in the case for that one like the copper one does lol.

here is the headstock...
copperheadstock.jpg

this is how it looked stock with a cream switchtip black rings and chrome pickups (all the stock parts are still mint in the case with the guitar so i can go back to stock on it 1-2-3 if i need to with no damage to the guitar)...

Re: "Twistedcaster" 99% done now...(and other guitar makeovers)

wow, thanks for the info XSSIVE. btw is it often/normal that gibson sells its prototypes?

Re: "Twistedcaster" 99% done now...(and other guitar makeovers)

i'm honestly not sure about that...and now that Gibson is using only huge dealers and cutting out most of the little guys i think it will be even harder to find them since in the past the only real place to find them was in the little "mom and pop" type shops that have a close connection with their Gibson rep or just got lucky.
