Two Down, And One To Go

JOLLY

Super Simonologist
My Tobacco Premium Plus LP Classic Plus has had a JB and some whatever kind of neck pickup in it since I've had it. I bought it right after the first UGD. I've hardly played it because it's had those pickups in it, but I'm so lazy I never changed them.

Today I put a Screamin' Demon in the bridge and a Jazz Bridge in the neck. It sounds freakin killer!! I love it now. The Demon is pretty similar to the Jazz bridge, but it has more output and a few other things.

My Custom Shop Peacock Quilted LP Classic Plus has had the stock Gibson pickups in it since I've had it. That's been about 11-12 years. I never changed them because they actually sound pretty good. I figured WTF, I just threw a C5 in the bridge of it and in the neck slot I put that 10k Jazz Model that korovamilkdud gave me....the one he did at the first UGD. I figured since the C5 is around 14k or whatever, it would go well with it. Plus they're both alnico 5. I'm about to restring it right now and fire it up. I already know it's going to sound good because I left both E strings on the guitar when I swapped the pickups. I leave them on so the bridge doesn't come of and get out of whack from the way I had it setup. Just by dorking around with those two strings I could tell it's going to sound great!!

It almost seems blasphemous to me, but tommorrow I'm going to put the 10k antiquity I did at UGD and an Alnico II Pro in my Amber LP Classic Plus. I figure they'll go well together since they're both alnico II pickups.

I still have an Epiphone Les Paul with a Jazz/Jazz combo in it, so I'm still good to go with those pickups. Plus, I think that guitar actually sounds better with that combo than my Gibson does.

Expect some clips to be coming around here soon. It's been raining a ton here lately, and my work schedule has been all kinds of screwed up because of it. I figure that's a good reason for me to get off of my ass and start recording again. I don't think I've even recorded anything in about 6 years.

Re: Two Down, And One To Go

Those are all going to kick ass, but I'm curious to see what you think about the C5 in the peacock, and especially the UGD 10K Ant. in your number one guitar.

The C5 kicked my ass!! It's really great. It's just a super full pickup.

Are you running with the stock electronics (pots and caps) in all of them?

I'm looking forward to hearing the clips.

I'm hooking them up to whatever is in there. There's no way in hell I'd swap all of that stuff out. If I did that, none of my guitars would work.

LMAO! That's cool. Even though I know how to swap them out, I sometimes leave them alone myself if they are good enough quality and Gibson's are definitely good enough quality.

Re: Two Down, And One To Go

JOLLY.....I'm ashamed of you!

Not feeling confident in swapping out all of the electronics in your guitars?!

After all of the lecturing we've been doing to the noobies about needing to learn how to do all of that stuff.

Re: Two Down, And One To Go

Changing electronics is easy. Just remember - when running a wire from the pickup selector to the control cavity.... DON"T USE THE DITCH WITCH.

Sounds like you're going to have a variety of killer-sounding LPS, there Jolly. That's something I discovered recently (although it should have been obvious all along). In my case it's Tele's, but it pays to have more than one of the same guitar, so you can compare pickups side-by-side. Comparing this month's pickups to what you think you remeber last month's pickups sounded like is an exersize in futility.

Re: Two Down, And One To Go

Sorry to be repetitive, but I'll really be waiting some more insight on what you think of the Screamin' Demon!

I absolutely LOVE mine. My favorite bridge humbucker ever!
It stays articulate even with obscene amounts of gain.

I've been praising it since a long time now, I think it's a gem.

Re: Two Down, And One To Go

I'm a fan of the Demon too. Been running it in the bridge of my Frankenstrat and looking at putting a Lil' Screamin' Demon in the neck.

Re: Two Down, And One To Go

Never tried a Demon. Need to.. I have heard from a bunch of guys that a C5 is killer in a LP.. Definately a must try.. Its perfect in a SG.

Look forward to the clips Jolly!

Re: Two Down, And One To Go

I'm curious which one you like better; the C5 or Demon.

The A2 Ants in your amber LP Classic are quite a bit different than your Jazz set, so I'm curious to see if you like them.

I'm haven't had enough time to really figure out yet. I played each one of them for only about an hour yesterday. I didn't get a chance to do anything today because I worked.

I haven't had a chance to swap those yet. I sill feel weird about doing it. I actually thought about putting the 10k Antiquity and the Alnico II Pro in my Flying V. I wonder how well that would work out.
