Billy Gibbons Red Devil for Tele® Signature Pickup

When Seymour Duncan first introduced the Signature Billy Gibbons Red Devil™ set, his fiery sound was captured in Strat®-sized humbucker pickups. Now, that hot Texas tone is available as a drop-in replacement bridge pickup for any Telecaster® wielding guitarist.

Approved by Reverend Willie G himself, the Red Devil™ for Tele® is built with an Alnico 5 magnet, 4 conductor cable, and a hot wind that drives amps and pedals harder than a traditional vintage humbucker. Whether you’re looking for cutting leads, tight pinch harmonics, or thick rhythm tones, it’s all at your fingertips with the Red Devil™ for Tele®.

Billy Gibbons Hades Gates Signature Humbuckers

From scorching lead guitar to his own line of hot sauces, Billy Gibbons has never been afraid of a little extra heat. The Pearly Gates™ pickup set from his coveted 1959 Les Paul® has been a favorite among P.A.F. purists for decades. For the Reverend, some guitars in his collection benefited from additional output to deliver his signature sound.

This demand for a hotter wind forged The Hades Gates™ humbucker set – a fiery take on the mid-forward, punchy sound Billy is known for. Alnico 2 magnets and this added output drive your amp into some hot, blue, and righteous territory.

Hades Gates™ Humbuckers are hand built in Santa Barbara, California with 4-conductor cable and short mounting legs.

Available in Nickel, Gold, Black, or Raw Nickel with Gold Mesh covers, and also offered uncovered in Zebra, Reverse Zebra, White, and Black.

i never liked the pg+ actually. the a5 magnet took away what i loved about the pgb. many years ago i played a few tunes in montreal at a duncan event. evan and seymour invited me. i was playin my old homemade tele thing with a pg set into seymours custom vibrolux. evan said i had better tone than anyone else that night (not that i played better mind you). the pearlys are great into the right amp with the right guitar. not that ive tried them, but i assume the hades just have more turns to get a little more output and little thicker sound, maybe similar to the cs pg

Where does the Hades Gate stand compared to the Pearly Gates Plus?

For one thing, these are still A2-based, whereas the PG+ was A5. Due to the A2 being a weaker mag, the coils are overwound a bit more than the PG+ (8.9K vs 8.6K) to compensate the output.

I suspect the HG bridge will be a little warmer than the PG+ with a touch of compression, more growl on the bottom, and a little more midrange emphasis than the PG+ had.

Honestly, it's my ideal "A2" 'bucker spec, at least on paper. Definitely going to have to try these!

I love the look and description of the faux Gold Foil HG, but I am all set for HB guitars right now, and still have two vintage Gibson Tarbacks kicking around that I love.

We will have to wait for these to get out in the wild, or for some people to do comparison videos to see how it compares/overlaps with other pickups in the line. All we have now is the descriptions/EQ and SD videos.

  1. hotter wind
  2. mid-forward
  3. alnico 2
  4. eq not too much scooped
  5. bridge eq with enough bass and not too much treble (on paper)
  6. neck eq with not too much bass (on paper)
Finally an humbucker set I should really like from SD!!!! Might try those in my Ibanez SZ520 to get it closer to my LP.

Well, which is it? I've been looking for a hotter PAF style with an A2 mid-push and disappointed that pretty much every pickup on the Duncan website has a scooped EQ, so much so it makes me think it's all incorrect info. Because this one literally says mid-forward and is sig to a player known for exactly that. But the EQ shows scooped. So which is it, mid-forward or scooped?
