Oh man, Sco is rocking one nowadays - WHY did I have to see that!?!

If you can listen to this and not want one, you're stronger than I.

Audio starts at 13 seconds in for some reason

The first time I saw it, when he rolled the volume up after the intro for the drop, I was like

I played one in a store back in 2005 while in CA on a business trip. It's the only amp that ever literally inspired dreams. A couple weeks later it was in the house.

What made it special was its response to playing dynamics. The timbral changes you could get just by picking harder/softer were jaw dropping. When rolling off the volume on your guitar, the lead channel sounded better than the vast majority of clean amps I've played.

The only reason I parted with it was to fund the acquisition of an AxeFx. I had a small child and didn't get the opportunity to play it in the house.

I dunno if the design/quality has changed since Joe/Ken sold out to Premier Builders but if I was going to go back to tubes (ain't happenin'), I'd be on the lookout for another Emerald 50.

You might hate it, though. Lots of people don't get into the Dumble thing.

They sound amazing! I could never pay those prices for an amp though.

The secret is to buy used. I scored my Emerald for ~$1,900 shipped. I know that's not cheap but it's way less than they cost when new.

I don't know if they are in the same price-range, but i prefer the tone of a Soldano SLO.

Re: Two Rock . . . what's your thoughts on 'em ?

Asking about a Two rock is really hard...they do have more than one model.

They are super nice amps but truth be told I've yet to play a model that made me feel like I had to have it.

Re: Two Rock . . . what's your thoughts on 'em ?

COMPLETELY different amps. Two Rocks are Fender inspired, whereas the SLO is Marshall inspired.

Ahhhh, understood ;)

In that case, i'll stick to the great AB165 Bassman amps.

Man i love my Bassman !

Still, lemme see what Youtube can deliver.

Re: Two Rock . . . what's your thoughts on 'em ?

SLO = Super Lead Overdrive, aka Marshall 1959 Super Lead.

If that's not "inspired by", I don't know what is.

Well, that's just a name...after all, whats in a name???

Look at the circuits...

I also suppose it depends on which era of Fender we are talking about because a 1959 Plexi Lead amp is as much a late 50s Fender amp as a late 50's Fender amp.

I scored a studio pro 35 a while back, very nice in the clean department but I just couldn't get on with it in a band situation, we play rock covers and the subtleties of the TR were just completely lost in the mix really. Extremely loud, very portable and high quality amps though, if you like your cleans and a good variety of pedals these things are super nice.
