Two Thumbs Down on the Fender Blues Jr.

Next time you are in a music store, plug into a Fender Deluxe Reverb or a Twin Reverb and you will hear the difference.
Went the music store today and jammed out on a Fender Delux Reverb for a good half hour with a Strat. I admit the amp rocks, sound better than the Blues Jr.
But the Blues Jr. is more compact, much cheaper, and has every bit of tone and reverb that I want.
So while you have every right to give the blues jr. thumbs down, I give it 2 thumbs up.

Re: Two Thumbs Down on the Fender Blues Jr.

i agree that the reverb sux! but i dont use it much at all. the amp, minus the reverb, is an amazing amp at a crazy price!

question... even with the reverb rolled all the way down i can still hear a bit of it creaping through... can i disconnect the 2 wires leading to the reverb tank and take it out of the equation altogether? is this possible?

Re: Two Thumbs Down on the Fender Blues Jr.

On a similar note, I tried out a MIM Strat. It was ok, but I couldn't believe how god-awful the pickups were, especially considering how nice the pickups were in the Eric Johnson Strat I tried.

Re: Two Thumbs Down on the Fender Blues Jr.

You get what you pay for...the Blues Jr. is cool for a cheapie amp.

Re: Two Thumbs Down on the Fender Blues Jr.

I'm getting one someday. Or a Pro Jr, though I'd love the extra tone shaping knobs, not in it for the Fat Switch or Reverb (if it sucks so much, I bet a pedal will be better).

Re: Two Thumbs Down on the Fender Blues Jr.

Hey Cyber punk, thanks for bumping a thread that's over a year old. i still feel the same way about the Blues Jr. I use mine every chance I get. LOVE IT! :)

Re: Two Thumbs Down on the Fender Blues Jr.

I believe you can just unplug the wires connecting the reverb tank. I've heard of many people doing this since it never really goes off.

Re: Two Thumbs Down on the Fender Blues Jr.

The Pro™©® Players thing gets so annoying man...

Can't you just speak for your self?

Re: Two Thumbs Down on the Fender Blues Jr.

YEAH and my Epiphone VALVE JR. sounds NOTHING like my friend's JMP!!!!111 I always thought these two completely different amps should have IDENTICAL TONES!!! WTF!!!111 nobody who uses any amp has good tone.

Seriously dude, do you bite into apples and expect to taste orange? Every amp is different and if you hate an amp simply because it doesn't do what another amp does...uhhh go play that other amp and stop complaining.

Fair enough....

But for the cost of the Billm mods and some new tubes and maybe a new speaker it's an amp that can get a very usable tone that'll cover a lot of ground.

The Deluxe Reverb Reissues are great amps, but it is not, by any stretch of the imagination, anywhere near the same sound as the Blues Junior.

Quite frankly, I actually prefer the sound of the Blues Junior over the Deluxe Reverb, reissue or otherwise.

Re: Two Thumbs Down on the Fender Blues Jr.

I took a new one in trade about 6 months ago and...two thumbs down. I'll take a beat up Ampeg (less than 400$) anyday over this dog. I actually took a 13-hole Corcoran boot (size 11) to it out of frustration...

Re: Two Thumbs Down on the Fender Blues Jr.

I had one and used for about 3 years in a Blues band. I then started using a Peavey Classic 50/410 and realized how boxy the tone was compared to the Peavey. I also used a Hot Rod Deluxe that was so much better. IMO, it's the cab size that makes it boxy. It's just too small for me.

Amazing how much of a difference the cabinet makes. I have a Peavey classic 20. Boxy, middy - had to have the mids turned all the way down.

Plugged the external speaker jack into a Carvin legacy 1 x 12. Opened it up. Made it sound fantastic!

that's a lot of the reason that why I only play my Blues Jr. through my 2X12 cabinet, which is what I suggest all blues jr players try at some point.

Re: Two Thumbs Down on the Fender Blues Jr.

I can't find a single flaw with this amp, and i've owned it for almost 4 years now. I haven't had a single complaint with the sound OR operation of the reverb tank, although, before getting this one, in the past i did have one of the regular black ones and the reverb did end up going out all together on it.

This amp, to me, is the perfect place to get all that classic country Tele bite, snap, and snarl that made those old records sound so good. Two BIG thumbs up from me and this amp.

LOVE MINE i had awesome tone on sunday night after my retube...i'll be the first to admit that the verb is no good...but who needs it anyways?!?!!? reverb-schmeverb!

Re: Two Thumbs Down on the Fender Blues Jr.

Mine sounds ok i guess but i don't turn it up over 4 or 5 ever. Just enough to get rid of the "playing in a closet" sound that you get without any reverb at all.
