Two Thumbs Down on the Fender Blues Jr.

IMHO, this made in Mexico amp has to have one of the worst reverb units I have ever heard. It sounds nothing like the classic Fender Twin Reverb and Deluxe Reverb amps that are made in America, and used by thousands of Pro guitar players. I do not think Leo Fender/RIP would have ever put his name on this amp.

Re: Two Thumbs Down on the Fender Blues Jr.

well, it's not a tube driven reverb

I think no one would argue with you, though

I just leave mine on 2, and groove on the good tone, other wise

Curly, I know you like the amp, and that's cool. It does have a good basic tone. I cannot see spending money on a Fender reverb amp, when the reverb sucks. I believe that Fender should have not put the solid state reverb in the amp, lowered the price, and sold it as a non reverb amp. Many Pro players feel that the reverb on the BJ is useless.

No I don't, :) I do know that they are great sounding amps built like the great ones years ago with point to point wiring. :smoker:

Re: Two Thumbs Down on the Fender Blues Jr.

I don't doubt that badcat amps are great, but the Blues Jr. is an awesome compact blues amp, it's not called "Fender Blues Jr. Awesome Classic Reverb"
personally i like the reverb of the blues jr..... but I don't have much experience with other fender reverb amps.

Re: Two Thumbs Down on the Fender Blues Jr.

I don't like the reverb myself on mine..

Mine's a limited edition blonde one. I keep the reverb on around halfway. If you turn it way up, then it just sounds like plastic.

But the warmness is really good for blues and classic rock tones. I use it with a Keeley DS1 pedal.

Next time you are in a music store, plug into a Fender Deluxe Reverb or a Twin Reverb and you will hear the difference.

Isn't the Reverb on the Blues Jr. Solid State based?
Yes, and it sounds like crap compared to a Fender tube driven reverb.

This would be a great amp if it had the real Fender Tube driven reverb! :smack:

Re: Two Thumbs Down on the Fender Blues Jr.

The BJr has undergone several modifications, mainly to the reverb and where it goes in the circuit. Which mod level are you listening to? There is some stuff on FDP somewhere if you are curious.

Re: Two Thumbs Down on the Fender Blues Jr.

I love the Blues Jr., but then again, I use it for, well, blues. Funny how it isn't called Surf Jr.

Fender definitely makes a killer reverb unit. I know the one on my Vibrolux Reverb rocks. I can't stand that Accutronics crud after hearing it.

And how much would it cost then?

The true beauty of the Blues Jr. is that you can get excellent tube tone at an affordable price. Sure, someday I hope to get a Fender (or other) amp with great tube driven reverb, but until that happens I love my Junior for what it is.

Curly has the right idea. Use the reverb somewhere between 0 and 3 and enjoy the tone!

Exactly my thoughts...look at the price difference between the Fenders with a great Reverb, and the Blue's Jr.

IME, you don't get "somethin for nothin"..especially with amps. The Jr. has a great tone, and for 4 bills, that's about all ya can ask for.

Re: Two Thumbs Down on the Fender Blues Jr.

Stratcat, I am not a big fan (at all) of that amp. Unmodded -->, there are supposed to be some grat mods for it, though.

??????????? Ah, don't most Fenders have Accutronics tanks in them ...

Don't dis SS, the Peavey Classic 30's had SS drive on their reverbs, and theirs sounding really smooth, deep, and just the right amount of brightness... I still like tube drive though, but just becuase it's tube doesn't mean that it will sound good. Plus it depends on what tanks they used, and how they were set up ... Is it a two spring or a three spring tank? What's the decay time? What are the impedances ...knowing that one could swap the tank for another model. Visit Accutronics' sight for more info about the tank(s) code(s )that are marked on the tanks themselves.

Re: Two Thumbs Down on the Fender Blues Jr.

Unmodded the Blues Jrs are decent amps....not great....but decent.

Modded they're amazing. With the mods mine sounds amazing. I've used it for gigs and rehearsals and get a ton of compliments on my tone with it.
