U.S.A Custom necks

Anybody have any experience with this company? Thinking of having a neck made for a strat.
1- 12-16 radius
2- soft V
3- baked
4- 6100 stainless steel frets
5- maple
6- Floyd Rose nut route
7- Vintage tuners sized holes

Hoping these guys can get me a good neck. I am willing to pay a little extra to get a good neck made.

Re: U.S.A Custom necks

I bought one of them years ago. It has always served me well, and, I swear, never needed as much as a truss rod adjustment to be perfectly playable. Their selections don't cater to my current needs, but on quality grounds alone I would not hesitate to recommend them. (Keep in mind, though, that I have only played that single neck of theirs.)

Re: U.S.A Custom necks

Never bought a neck from them, but I just ordered a body and they were great to deal with. So I'd use them if I needed a neck.

Re: U.S.A Custom necks

Only had one of their necks (got a super cheap project Tele neck and body by them on CL, so I didn't order it from them) and it was very well built. I believe forum bro muttznmongrelz has at least 1 on an Iceman guitar.

I've had great luck with Musiraft and Warmoth (7 necks from them, all awesome) too.

I have no reason to believe they couldn't build you exactly what you want. I've played their necks, but haven't bought one, however, they have a great reputation here (as does Warmoth).

Re: U.S.A Custom necks

I grew up with Warmoth. I lived and worked close to them and have done business with them since they started. Great company and I loved their necks. In addition, I've used many different strat/tele/whatever necks on various parts builds over the years. From Fender to Squier to various el-cheapo's to various aftermarket companies. I've had some Squier necks that were pretty darn amazing and a few Johnson necks that were quite good for $15 - $20. However, for my tastes, USACG are simply the best necks I've used and their fret work is top notch.

Especially (as you are doing) if you spec things out to your preference. My favorite USACG neck is on my 14 year old (also USACG) chambered mahogany tele. I asked for a rosewood fingerboard with a 12" radius, soft V profie (after my 70's Tokai strat) and 6105 frets.

From the moment I strung the guitar up for the first time, it was so close to perfect I could have left it as is. As sirloin said, I've yet to touch the truss rod! The whole guitar is a very special instrument and the neck is a huge part of it. I love the way it feels and it inspires me to play. I love guitars and can't pass up a good buy, yet this tele is the one I want to play. It's sent some very fine guitars packing in the years I've had it.

There are some great people out there making fine products. USACG is one of them and my favorite.

Re: U.S.A Custom necks

thanks again everybody for the input, I'm trying to decide exactly what I need them to do. Its going on a floyd rose american classic strat. I'm thinking about striping off the poly finish on the body and getting a Nitros finish red metalic paint job. I have to find someone who can paint the body with a metalic red nitro finish. I am keeping the floyd on it but replacing the neck humbucker with lil 59's in the neck and middle and a IM 1 custom shop wound bridge pickup. maybe a few upgrades like low friction pots and orange caps. hoping it will sound fairly custom shop without the custom shop price.

Do whatever you want; however, for the price I think the cheapest route would be to order a new body from USACG, Warmoth, Musikraft...the Fender American bodies are pretty expensive to begin with and then the cost and time of stripping and repainting...just a thought.

you know, you may be on to something there. I really want to keep the floyd but I could always put it on another guitar for now along with the nut. totally more easy to deal with.

Re: U.S.A Custom necks

The great thing about USACG necks is that you can specify the exact thickness... something you can't do with Warmoth.

To be clear, you can keep the Floyd, just order a body to the same specs.

Just stripping and then repainting is a pain (unless you enjoy it that type of work then more power to ya) and unless you got a killer deal on the Fender USA body, it would be cheaper to order a new one from a Fender Licensed company like Warmoth.

On guitars yes, not on bass...but they are more flexible on bass necks than Warmoth (Musikraft offers the most options for a bass neck as far as thickness/profile.)

Musikraft will do neck thicknesses not listed too but for an upcharge (I think like $60.)
