Does anyone own one? Is it worth the high price tag or is it hype?

Re: Ultimate Attenuator

It is definitely worth the price, if you have an amp like a NMV Marshall or a HIWATT that really sounds better with the tubes really working. I have one I have used with several different HIWATTs and it is excellent at bringing the volume down without sacrificing the tone.

Thanks, bro. Thats what I wanted to hear :)

Re: Ultimate Attenuator

I haven't touched an ultimate attenuator but I just bought a weber mini mass 50w and it is amazing. It makes the tone a lot thicker and the drive more natural than what i was able to obtain on my crate v3112T in my apartment before.

Re: Ultimate Attenuator

You are welcome Matt. I want to clarify a little. If you are taking a screaming 100 watt tube amp down to bedrrom levels, the tone will suffer some, but the UA is in my experience the best unit out there.

They are pricey, so if you can find a used one, they aren't too hard on the wallet.

Re: Ultimate Attenuator

It just occurred to me that I can achieve the same effect with my Hotplate and Power Block. I gave it a try and it seems rather promising...

Re: Ultimate Attenuator

Good Luck Alec!

I have A/B'd hot plates against the UA. I had a hot plate first, then bought the UA for an "attenuator shootout" at the first HIWATT Convention last year.

To make a long story short, I kept the UA and sold the Hot Plate.

I'll be the first guy to point out that the HP sucks a lot of tone at 12dB or more. Did you try using the Hotplate as a dummy load and re-amping?

I'll have to play with the re-amp setup some more to be sure it's my preferred way to play at bedroom volume. I also have an iso cab that I run through the small PA in my music room.

Re: Ultimate Attenuator

After seeing the price tag on the UA and talking with Christian, I decided to pull the trigger on a Weber Mass. I do appreciate the info fellas!

Re: Ultimate Attenuator

The Weber should do you well Matt, if not than attenuators are not your thing.
