Ultimate Duncan Pickup Comparsion by Ola Englund

Re: Ultimate Duncan Pickup Comparsion by Ola Englund

the invader sounded mean.
It would be nice to hear him play some lead lines too but it was a really well done video.

Re: Ultimate Duncan Pickup Comparsion by Ola Englund

I think I'll slap everyone who suggested me in my Invader thread that it would be too muddy on my SIX string guitar!

It sounds absolutely incredible in there, arguably the thickest of the passive bunch, yet clear enough for that kind of riffing, that I rarely do myself.

I did miss the 7-string JB though. It would be have been interesting but it's not hot enough compared to the others.

And yeah, something's gotta be wrong with the Alternative 8.

I think i love the invader most. Blackouts were crushing bones, too :)

Re: Ultimate Duncan Pickup Comparsion by Ola Englund

I like the DD's chunk....full shred was close but it sounded abit thinner. Invaders sounded brutal as always, and the dimebucker is a piece of crap.

I think he tunes to B and hes comparing the blackouts,Distortion,Alt 8,Invader,and full shred.

Re: Ultimate Duncan Pickup Comparsion by Ola Englund

Not my style of music, but still a really excellent comparison. I know he used different guitars, but it still provides a useful demonstration of the inherent differences in the pickups.

No way the Alt-8 was wired correctly, though.

I was surprised by how much I liked the Full Shred. That and the TB-6 were my favorites of the bunch.

The Invader sounded cool but lacked too much upper-mid for me.

The Dimebucker was a big sibilant mess.

The Blackouts were actually pretty cool, too. Very immediate attack. Definitely suited to the application.

Re: Ultimate Duncan Pickup Comparsion by Ola Englund

The (guitar w/) Blackouts won this for me. Invader was nice too but could have been a bit more tight. The Full Shred was surprisingly good and the best of the passives for me. I hadn't ever really thought of it as an option before but I'll have to keep it in mind from now on.

I'm speaking blasphemy, but with a high gain tone like in the video, I'm thinking an EQ pedal would be able to aproximate 80% of the tone changes, if not more. Try one before you kick me off of the forum. High gain tends to cover the subtlties of different pickups. Not sure what the deal on the Alt. 8 is. I love my Full Shred. ;)
