Ultimate New Rig Day - Time to Hurt Animals and Small Children

It's been a while, eh?

I've been pretty busy with work, having to move umexpectedly a few months ago, and a bunch of other ****. But I wanted to tell you about what I did this weekend.

I'll keep it brief because I'm tired as hell. On Friday evening, I drove a few hours north to Chris's (Youngthrasher here on the forum) place and stayed the night there. Then at just before 6am, we made the very long drive up to Portland, Oregon. I had some business to attend to.

Yup, that's a Verellen 6x12 and an Orange Thunderverb 200. I've never seen a cab this big before - it's both taller and wider than an Ampeg 8x10. Unfortunately, it doesn't have speakers, but that will be fixed shortly. It's probably a good thing that it's empty now though, as without speakers it's still about 60 lbs. It's going to be a heavy MF once it's loaded.

Was it worth driving for 22 hours over 48 hours? You tell me.

22 hours>>No not worth it, but hey, your young and dedicated, and thats good. Plus bigger is better, and better is never bad.

Time to update that profile pic. I think you and I might be the only ones who know a band using Verellen gear.

What speakers are you going with?

I've already got a pair of Creamback 75s in a cab that I plan on putting in the Verellen. But I would still need four more speakers. At the moment, the options I'm considering are:

Buy one more Creamback and three Redbacks for a total three of each

Same as above but Alnico Creams instead of Redbacks

Buy two Texas Heats and two Swamp Thangs

Buy four Manowars

Is the new guitarist using Verellen gear?

From what I have heard of them, I like the Texas Heat/Swamp Thang combo. That would be 600 watts right there.
Or Eminence now makes something called a Wheelhouse, I think with a hemp cone, rated 150 watts each.

The neo speakers are awesome!
I have a neo Tonkerlite and it weighs nothing and I actually like its sound better than the heavy-as-hell giant-magnet regular Tonker. They are seriously light. Freaky light. Like "why did they ship me an empty box? OH, there is a speaker in here!" light.

Looks like I'm going to go with a pair of Creambacks, a pair of V30s, and a pair of G12t-100s. Got a great deal on a pair of the latter and I figure a V30 type will be the perfect match for the other 4. Might go for Wizards but I'm not sure.

Well, that should work. I can imagine how it'll sound.
Revenant back from the 70's/80's!

Thats gona sound great. I had a PPC412 with V30s that i put on top of my Green 4x12 with G12T-100s and they complimented eachother extremely well. Like the 100s fill in the lows and highs while the 30s focus on midrange.

You're gona have a cool cab. I've never been big on the Thunder series but Orange is my brand. You've done well, padowan.

That's the idea. I saw a set of G12Ts that were pulled from a Matamp cab for $70 on CL. I figured that if they were good enough for Matamp, they're good enough for me. And yes, the complimentary nature of the V30s and G12Ts was the idea, with the Creambacks in there to add some crunch.

I'm curious though what you didn't like about the Thunder series.

The Shape knob, as cool as it is and as much as it simplifies things, it never seems "right" to me. I spend way more time tweaking an Orange with the Shape knob than i do the normal FMV tonestack. Of course their best EQ circuit is the Baxandall circuit from the vintage ORs but they don't seem interested in bringing those amps back.
