ULTIMATE PREFERRED HARD TAIL BRIDGE?

Re: ULTIMATE PREFERRED HARD TAIL BRIDGE?

You do everything with an eye towards "can i undo this in the future?" Judging from your rattle can jobs I'm going to guess no... So i dont see non reversible as a downside... not especially for what it offers.

Paint can always be removed or redone. Once you rout your body for that bridge, it's never going to be undone without extremely time consuming filling/shaping/epoxy/paint or veneer.

a bridge can be comfortable and suck

An uncomfortable bridge will stop you from playing.

Once a guitar is refinished its trashed most of its resale value anyways which is the only reason why you would be worried about undoing a mod. Its a stupid argument people do permanent mods constantly around here so not sure why you have your knickers in a twist about a bridge. But then again your the same guy who told me that cheap guitars were a good source of emergency cash. So that sums up your view... The OP here asked for suggestions for the ultimate hardtail... He didnt say bolt on... or no mods required just a suggestion for hard tail... I gave one and a damn good one.

The comfortable argument is silly too. Do you choose your car based only on how comfortable it is to sit in? Come on get real, there are far more parameters than just comfort that matter.

Schaller Hannes. Now it comes in a 7 string variant and piezo equipped. Pricey but amazing.

Re: ULTIMATE PREFERRED HARD TAIL BRIDGE?

Hipshot is my go to favorite but the locking ABM is also cool.

The hipshot was already posted, this is the ABM I like...

If a bridge was digging into my hand while palm muting, or was too high up off the body, it would stop me from playing. All the other factors (appearance, tone, sustain, etc) are secondary.

If I was to spend a lot of time driving, yes, that would be one of the factors in buying a car. I drove 2000 miles in 3 days last summer. Thankfully my car was comfortable.

Also, as for my statement about owning cheap guitars being better when you need money. I didn't say they were a good source of emergency cash. I said that it was better to have a few cheaper guitars rather than one expensive one if you were forced to sell gear for money. You have a better chance of not having to sell all of them (unless you're *really* strapped). Shopping smarter and buying used guitars will make sure that they retain most of their value. I don't think I've ever lost any money selling one of my guitars, and that includes all the refinished ones.

The problem with that skippy is by that measure alone you have just described 90% of bridges already out there and does very little to narrow down your choices. So saying its the only factor that matters is silly... its like the car analogy is easy to find a comfortable car but that doesnt mean it meets your needs. Most bridges are comfortable on your hand... Most bridges dont sit too high off the body (if they did that would cause action problems)

Tune-o-matics sit higher than I'd prefer. Strat style hardtails are lower to the body and are more comfortable *for me*.

Ibanez Gibraltar?

Do a google search for Ibanez Gibraltar uncomfortable. None of those posts are mine, but I agree with them.

The corners on this are sharp:

I think this one would be fine:

Re: ULTIMATE PREFERRED HARD TAIL BRIDGE?

Is there one you've played or known to result in the lowest string action coming out of the bridge?

Re: ULTIMATE PREFERRED HARD TAIL BRIDGE?

While building Warmoth guitars I almost always select the 2Tech model and it's done well for me. Have tried a few others and appreciate the info above.

Re: ULTIMATE PREFERRED HARD TAIL BRIDGE?

Yup. I like those too. I also like the locking Schaller on my Peavey.

The new versions of those come with both option of top loading and rear loading strings. So 3 over the top and 3 from the back :beerchug:

ABM do a version of that bridge. I haven't tried it yet but i bet its good.

But yeah the 36 is my favorite for the price.
