Ultimate SDUG Semi Hollow Preliminaries

Aceman

I am your doctor of love!
OK - as long as we are in a sort of acoustic mode...

Semi Hollows! Anything and Everything!!!! Obviously, 335, 336, 137's etc...Epi, Gibson, and so forth.

But also Les Pauls, Hamers and such with distinctive sound holes! And also the odd Tele and what not.

Watch out - I know there are some bad Yamaha and Ibanez out there in the shadows!!!!!

NO FULL HOLLOW JAZZ BOXES!!!!!

So, get your vintage (or not so vintage) on let's see something with F holes!!!! (or diamonds or whatever...)

Re: Ultimate SDUG Semi Hollow Preliminaries

Why bother with a poll? Save the effort, and call Jolly the winner, with his 335. ;)

Re: Ultimate SDUG Semi Hollow Preliminaries

What about Gretsch style guitars that are full hollow?

I will have to ponder this. In a sense, some of those really fit the spirit of the semi hollow. Yet....they are not.

For the moment - let's keep it to something with a block inside there somewhere. And are there Gretsch semis? Not really a Gretsch fan except for some White Falcon love...

Alright, well I have a Michael Kelly thats shaped kind of like a gretsch with Filtertron style pickups and a bigsby, I guess its full hollow but it DOES have a block under the bridge. Does that count? lol
Its the guitar in this thread https://forum.seymourduncan.com/showthread.php?t=206202 it has a different pickguard now though. I'll wait to post updated pics until you decide if it qualifies or not.

This is a 92-93 Fender HMT bass (Red) which was made in Japan, it's has a very unusual headstock for a Fender Bass. I bought it at the show this year in Orlando "Guitar Expo"!

'90 or '91 Epiphone Sheraton II, made in Korea. A Christmas gift from my father while we were living in Germany. Has been my main guitar since then. First modification was to remove the pickguard: it was ugly and rattled. Also changed the position of the strap button from behind the neck joint to the upper bout.
Changed the pickups around '95 to 59n/JBb, and then to a P-Rails set in 2009. Had to drill holes for switches and make pot/switch holes larger for upgrades.
Switches: Rail/Parallel/P-90

Tone Monster.

Somebody get Jonesy and Jolly to get on up here!

Dang Steve, you got a bass for every category!

A chambered LP DOES NOT COUNT unless there is a factory hole in the top...

Re: Ultimate SDUG Semi Hollow Preliminaries

1977 Ibanez 2630 w/Rio Grande BBQ and Kent Armstrong Vintage in this pic. It's currently got a gold set of EMGs, but I'm thinking of going back to the Rio and a 59b in the neck. For my money, there's no better semihollow out there. I love the bigass factory frets and easy neck profile.

Much less in the way of value, but it's definitely up there on my list. I don't know if it counts or not as it's hollow under the pickups but solid under the bridge. It's a 74/75 Gibson Les Paul Signature. I need to pull the pots and find out for sure. Regardless, it's a cool player and I love the phase switch and even though I don't use the low z output, there's still a 3 way on the top that reduces output and seems to boost treble, as well. It's great for a Malcom kinda tone.

Red is a pain to try and photograph and get the flame to pop. I'll try and take some pics outside tommorrow when the sun is shining.

2007 Gibson ES-335, Memphis Custom Shop

This guitar has amazing tone and has an acoustic voice about as loud as a regular acoustic. Plugged in, it's even better. I've kept the stock 57 Classics because they sound just right, and it's the sound of this guitar. The neck is exactly what you'd expect from the best Gibsons made. It's definitely in the top 5 of my favorite guitars I've ever owned....a main guitar.

I gotta say its high time Joneser or Jolly walks away with top honors for a guitar. As far as I was concerned, Jonsers Black Beauty was a **** hair away from getting my vote ( voted for Dixie for sentimental reasons). Therefore I will cast my vote for either Jonsers 335 or Jollys, but right now, I'll be dad gummed if I can decide..mmm , maybe if Jolly interred that white Penguin?? Hmm.....
