Re: Ultimate Super Strat? 2: Stack Plus & 1: JB
The JB with 250K is smooth and bouncey...throaty and powerful and the treble is more than adequate but not as bright as it is with 500K pots. As I mentioned, the Custom Custom is usually thought of as being a very smooth pickup in terms of treble, but when I compared the CC in my single humbucker Strat with a 500K pot to the JB in this Tom Anderson with a 250K pot the CC was brighter. A 59B with a 500K pot is brighter still.
In my guitar that I'm ging to wire up kije this, I'm going to go for the JB with 250K pots, just because I like the way this Tom Anderson turned out so much.
Thanks! Lew
jpage said:Great review Lew! As I posted yesterday, I'm building a mahog body strat with a conversion neck and am currently pondering my pickup choices. Sounds like the stacks look and sound like real single coils without the hum! Phenomenal. Can you tell me more about the JB tone alone? You mentioned that it wasn't too bright. I like a relatively open and clear (usually low to moderate output) humbucker tone and I'm thinking that even with a 500k pot the JB won't be bright enough. What are your thoughts on a 59, A2 or PG as a bridge humbucker in this guitar (with a tap)?
I want you to ponder this as I will probably just have you build the entire pickguard for me since you are right there in Boulder. Do you sell pickguards? I can replace a humbucker but one we start talking pots, resistors, push pulls, etc. I start to fade out...
