Um...help me fix this? Mag orientation problem

I just put uoa5 unoriented magnets into my 490R and 498T. Love the sound, especially on the neck. But in the middle position (both PUs) I get that honky, nasal out-of-phase sound.
When I installed the mags, I put them in with the red paint marks facing the lower part of the guitar. Do I need to reverse the direction of both mags? Or just one? Thanks.

With one pickup magnetically out of phase, that's the sound of the paf set in the '59 Gibson Les Paul played by Peter Green and later, Gary Moore.

There's some sweet tones there when both pickups are combined and the two volume controls are used to blend them.

It's a sweeter, breathier out of phase sound than connecting the pickups electrically out of phase by reversing the cable leads.

I wouldn't want my only guitar set up that way, but if you have several, one set up like that might be nice.

Just as an FYI, we typically install humbuckers with both "stud" coils pointing towards the center. So it's important that both mag stripes point to either the stud coil or screw coil. Not "up" or "down" per se. (Assuming you want both pups in-phase.)
