Unbelievable inexpensive fender

Over the holidays, I took a father and son shopping for a new guitar and bass and the prices just killed me... The father got a squire tele for $140 and the son got an active ibanex bass for 125.

Both are considerablly better quality and playability than the $500 instruments that I bought as a student in the 80s.

The squire required some searching... The equivalent strats were too light and some of the teles weren't set up well.

But the one he took home was a guitar that I could use as a stage backup if I didn't already have too many guitars.

Cad cam certainly has changed the world.

Move up to the $300 price range, and Squier VMs are incredibly impressive. They must be made with slave labor. $300 is NOTHING these days!

Re: Unbelievable inexpensive fender

I got an Orangwood acoustic guitar for $135. Came with a Gig Bag and I can honestly say it plays better than some $1K acoustics I've tried and owned. It is a great time to be starting to play guitar.

Re: Unbelievable inexpensive fender

Agreed. It blows my mind how affordable fine instruments are today and yet we struggle to motivate young people to play.

Agreed.

I used to have a 72 Thinline RI. I tried the Squier VM equivalent and wondered why I had spent 3x in the Fender.

Re: Unbelievable inexpensive fender

You don't really need to spend a lot of money on a quality instrument if you find the right guitar which what really matters.

Re: Unbelievable inexpensive fender

jack pearson is a world class guitar player and pretty much plays stock squire guitars exclusively these days after glaser does a fret job

I think he said they get a better volume pot, too, but that’s it. I love when he talks about Joe B giving him the Epiphone V. He thought it was Joe’s ‘58 at first.

But yeah, the Squiers are nice. Just picked up a Classic Vibe Tele. Killer guitar for not much money.

Re: Unbelievable inexpensive fender

those joe b v's are pretty damn nice. the firebirds too! hell even the lp my buddy had was pretty nice. you dont have to spend a lot of money to get a nice guitar. a grind n polish makes a big difference

Re: Unbelievable inexpensive fender

I did a record last year where the studio had a Squire Tele they got new for $95.00 and threw a old stack Duncan in it. Damn thing was setup and hot!

Mind blowing how good it was for the money.

Re: Unbelievable inexpensive fender

I purchased a used Mustang amp (the one with the 12" speaker) and a used Affinity strat for my godson this christmas. I set up the guitar, polished the frets, installed a CRL switch, and threw in a Duncan QP in the bridge.

After fiddling with the amp and guitar, I am AMAZED at how much of a rig you can get these days for under 2 hundos.

One of my buddies has 2 of those jb lps, (pelham blue with no trem, and inverness green with bigsby) and all I could say after playing them was Damn, those are sweet!

Robots, actually, hence the consistency....

Slaves made the previous generation of randomly massacred plywood crap

Re: Unbelievable inexpensive fender

I love Mustang and the Duo-Sonic by Fender, but according to my mom, I should prefer to have under $500 electric guitar ( https://bestazy.com/best-electric-guitars-under-five-hundred/ ). What are your suggestions? Do you think Yamaha RevStar or Fender Squier would be better ones?

500 bucks can probably get you American Fender if you look hard enough (seek out grime, missing strings, or random minor wiring issues like loose jacks or busted switches/potentiometers, and lazy sellers who'd rather apologize than spend an hour to fix it)..

Japanese Fender is definitely getable. Or TWO mexican fenders.

New $500 guitars are for people with zero sense
