Unexpected NGD

I'd been thinking about a G&L Legacy Tribute or MIM Fender, but not looking to buy. An earlier/discontinued Godin Progression pretty much fell into my lap yesterday. Found it at a small hobby shop up the street that also gives music lessons. This is a place that may have 3 or 4 cheap imports hanging on the wall in a small partitioned area that's more like the red headed step child of the store than a "music section". I go in occasionally to pick up small parts for model railroad, which is why I was in yesterday. I never bother to check the guitars. Yesterday I did. I was shocked to see the Godin hanging there. Apparently it was a purchase for someone at the store and ended up abandoned. At any rate, it's NOS/Mint, still had hang tags. Not a mark on her except for a very faint black "stain" on bottom curve of the headstock (looks like from hanging on the wall hanger). Plain strings were corroded. Polished frets, oiled the neck, restrung. I don't think I'm going to have to touch the action ... maybe a tweak. $450, with the gig bag, OTD. I think that's a pretty nice deal.

Nice Grab!

That's the one that ooohed & aaahed me in teh Godin thread!

Lovely!

Thanks.

Think I missed that thread.

I'm not real thrilled with the look of the pick guard on the newer Progressions and Sessions.
What I've been jonesing for is a Montreal Premiere but cant spend the money right now (IRS and property taxes). Guess I just set that jones back for a little while longer, but I couldn't pass this one up. ;)

Thats really cool! Great suprise find! I love the look without the guard! body shape kinda reminds me of the G&L Jerry Cantrell model but with single coils. What is the little black button in front of the tone control??

Re: Unexpected NGD

They call the button/circuit HDR (high definition re-voicer). Kind of a gimmicky name but it's a type of active pre-amp. I'd say Rand-O has it pretty much right. It adds some gain but also clarity. The pickups are on the warm side and there is a distinct difference with and without the circuit engaged, especially clean. Obviously, I'm still getting a handle on it.

Re: Unexpected NGD

Sounds like fun!

Didn't realize it was active,tho...

Yeah, definitely active. There is some archived info about it on Godins site. http://www.godinguitars.com/godinpresshdr.html

I pulled the cover plate to put a fresh 9 volt in, even though it was still working fine. Pots and caps are on a single PCB along with the preamp (it's small) and switch. So, just standard pickups, wired direct to the switch and then out to the board. Standard switch too ... box type switch like Ibanez uses/used. I should have snapped a photo. Oh well.

Re: Unexpected NGD

I think Godin makes very nice guitars. They're slightly under the radar and I'm not sure why? I've played their strat, and its a nice one.

congrats!
