Unfamiliar with the Molex connector in the back cavity

I just picked up a 2007 Epiphone Les Paul and it's got one of those molex connectors in the back. I'd like to pick up a Duncan Custom and put it in the bridge. What would be entailed in altering the wiring so I can get rid of the molex and simply solder the new pickup in the old fashioned way? I recently replaced all four pots in one Les Paul a while ago and the process went smoothly. I used a wiring harness to accomplish that.

Is it just a few wires that would need to be redone or is there more to it than that?

I believe I've heard of keeping the molex in there but then there is the problem of ordered ends to put on the new pickup wires or something like that?

Can you post some pointers about this?

I would check the wiring color code chart Duncan has, then snip the wires on the original pickup (assuming that it's 4 conductor), leaving a decent bit of lead if you're planning on reusing them. Then hook it into the original connector.

If I understand correctly you're saying one method is to actually leave the original pickup wires connected into the Molex, but make a cut partway back and splice the new pickup in?

Exactly. I try to keep things simple. I would just leave enough lead on the other pickup for me to easily attach longer wire if necessary.

Cutting the pickup wire is easier than trying to crimp a new connector on. Crimpers are sort of expensive for a single project.
