Universal Audio VOLT (coming soon)

I think they are a great option if you want to go a simpler route and have that analog vibe, etc. For just doing guitar clips or podcasts, etc they are perfect. I bet they will sell a ton of them, especially the ones with the 76 compressor.

If I was a musician just starting out (rank noob) with studio recording/mixing/engineering, and/or I didn't have an interface, I would jump all over one of these.

It is also an option for a quick grab and go thing for ideas away from home, on a travel job, at a spare house, for get together jams or writing sessions, etc.

So would this be a decent choice for someone entering the world of digital recording for the very first time?

Barring an actual review of it (it's not out yet), knowing that UA stuff is top-tier studio equipment with a long pedigree (and owning and having experience with the LA-610, 2-610 and Apollo 6x), I'd venture the answer would be "absolutely".

The prices are for the budget-minded; in the hundreds. There are various models; the more features, the more the price goes up.

The new Volt range starts at an affordable $139 for one input and two outs, all the way up to four ins and outs for $369.
