Unwinding a 1/4 pound

Hi all,

I'm thinking of unwinding an SSL-4 pup to the region of 9-10k. Hopefully a brighter sound with lesser output but retaining the basic characteristics of the SSL-4. Is this project advisable?

I wouldn't do so, you could run into a lot of problems.

Hey, Welcome to the Forum!

If you already have a QP, I would send it to SD to have it rewound to my specs. If I was thinking of buying one, I'd go Custom Shop. I say this because I wouldn't trust my self with so much hair-thin wire.

and your gonna lose a lot of the tension in the wire by doing it by hand
