Update on EMG 18 volt mod

holy carp! Just did the mod and it made a huge difference. Now I see why the Duncan actives use an 18 volt power supply. The pickups don't sound all mushy and lifeless anymore. It was hard to find room for the batteries, but they made it, and I'm happy. I think I may still sell this guitar, but at least it sounds even more awesome now.

Re: Update on EMG 18 volt mod

it made THAT much of a difference?!?

Re: Update on EMG 18 volt mod

not enormous, but definately noticeable. The compressed fart sound is lessened, the pickups sound more open and growl more under distortion and they actually have a little sparkle when played clean now.

Re: Update on EMG 18 volt mod

How would you do this mod? Splice the current 9V connections and just hook another battery up?

Re: Update on EMG 18 volt mod

I don't know anyone who likes the 9 volt sound more than the 18 volt sound. When run at 18 volts the distortion of the amp is much clearer. You can really hear the individual notes ringing instead of a mushy sound since the pickups put out a cleaner signal due to the increased headroom.

Re: Update on EMG 18 volt mod

Has anyone tried running them ever tried them at 27v?

EMG says it doesn't really make much of a difference between 18v and 27v, I'm just wondering if anyone tried it anyway.

Re: Update on EMG 18 volt mod

apparently the difference really isnt as "dramatic" as from 9v to 18v... but who knows why *shrugs*
